This April, the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile
completed multiple renovations throughout the property, bringing a clean, modern look to two of its dedicated meeting spaces as well as the iconic pool and fitness center. These renovations include the newly renamed first floor ballrooms, Avenue
, as well as the adjoining foyers that are perfectly suited for corporate meetings and events. In addition, the property’s fitness center, the I-Club
, was given a brand new look with spa-like design, and now offers personal trainers and yoga classes on site. The world-renowned Junior Olympic-sized indoor pool
received a facelift of its own with bright paint, gothic Romanesque light fixtures, and relaxing lounge chairs. Tying into the overall appearance of the 2015 renovated Executive Tower, these updated spaces complement both the history of the 1929 building, while combining décor and features for the modern guest.
“We are thrilled to unveil these new renovations at the iconic InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile,” said General Manager Raymond Vermolen
. “On the first floor, guests are treated to an updated look in our Avenue and Streeterville meeting rooms, offering unique space for any occasion. With the renovated pool and fitness center, we are combining the rich history of the property together with world-class amenities for both locals and guests alike.”
In collaboration with Whitespace Interiors
, the renovations at the property bring textured materials, bold metallics, and modern art into the first floor area. With a stunning entryway complete with a laser cut bronze screen, golden wall coverings, and a modern chandelier, guests are led into the pre-function area, with updated carpet, accent wall art, and geometric gold and crystal wall sconces. Movable tables and chairs add functionality to the space, while a wireless charging center and bar allows guests to easily stay connected while on the go. The Streeterville meeting space debuts new carpet in sleek hues of grey, mauve and taupe, complemented by shimmery, textured wall coverings, jewel-toned contemporary art, and new hanging light fixtures. The Avenue meeting space includes new carpet in those same sleek tones, complete with new textured wall coverings and eye-catching gold and silver light fixtures.
A few floors up at the tri-level pool and fitness center, guests are greeted at the reception center, featuring a mosaic backlit milk-glass wall art installation with marble tiled floors and plush, jewel tone furniture. The locker rooms feature two brand new dry saunas, updated benches, sconces and wall art, combined with freshly painted lockers, new shower doors, and woven carpet. The I-Club Fitness Center now offers new elliptical and bicycle machines, flooring, wall coverings and light fixtures. For the pool renovation, Whitespace Interiors maintained the historic nature of the space, keeping the striking blue-toned mosaic tile and classic stone trimmings. With a fresh coat of creamy white and pale blue paint, the pool area is brightened by new chairs and lounges in rich cream and grey tone fabrics. The fitness center and pool have a fresh modern feel, while staying true to the essence of the space that local I-Club members and global travelers have long enjoyed.
These renovations, along with the recently renovated Executive Tower in (2015) and the Grand Tower in (2013), highlight the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile as a true landmark on Michigan Avenue, maintaining the property’s strong Chicago ties while the fresh interiors and amenities honor the modern traveler’s sophisticated needs.
