From the Club President

Welcome back to our home rink!  Thank you to Skatium for giving Germain Skaters special practice times while our ice was down for NARCH.  Our regular August and September activities are continuing as always, so lace up those skates and get ready for Labor Day weekend!!

Please talk to your skater's coach and begin preparing for our upcoming test session and competition weekend.  You can download a test application from our website and mail to Clint Perkins.  You can register for our competition on the website or from the link on our website.  Don't delay - registration closes August 7th at midnight!!  We need many, many volunteers to help make our Labor Day weekend run smoothly.  You will begin to see sign ups on the wall at the rink, reminders on our website and email, and board members may be speaking with you and calling you personally.  We all completely understand that you do not want to miss a moment of preparing your skater, watching your skater, and celebrating with your skater during their special times of competing!  We will earnestly work with your schedule to accommodate your needs but we need your help!!  There are many and various jobs that must be done and we are happy to show you how to do each job that may interest you.  Please speak up, ask and join us in this endeavor.

We hope you will take advantage of our annual skating apparel sale at Marsala's. This is a great opportunity to buy/sell skates, dresses, and other skating apparel and accessories.  Perhaps just what you need for Labor Day competition will be at the sale!  Many of us gather together for lunch after the sale and it is always a fun time.  We hope to see you there!

Area schools are starting soon and there is still a lot of summer fun to be had - Five Below is a terrific store in the Coconut Point shopping center that has something for everyone.  We are partnering with Five  Below for a weekend fundraiser. During the weekend of August 13 - 15, each sale at Five Below that accompanies a FEFSC flyer will give 10% of sales to our club!  Please make a few of these flyers and share with your friends and enjoy shopping!

Even though the holidays seem far away - especially in this heat and humidity but our annual holiday show will be here before you know it!  If you or someone you know would like to help sponsor this fun event we are looking for area businesses to sponsor our event.  This business would get a tax deduction as well as advertising on our show t - shirts, tickets, programs, flyers, or on our website.  Everyone knows someone, so please consider helping us in this effort.  If you have questions or need more information, please come to our show committee meetings (posted on our website) or ask board members Lynda, Catherine, Kristy, Kerry, or Susan.  The holiday show will be a fun event but there will be more opportunities for club membership fun so please make it a habit of checking our website often - maybe we can make "Website Wednesday" be as popular as TBT!!
Skate on,
Labor Day Competition

Our 13th annual Labor Day Invitational will be held September 4th - 6th, 2015. The competition packet can be found on our website on the Labor Day page. All entries must be in by August 7th, 2015. Please sign up via

There will be a Test Session on Friday, September 4th, 2015. The test application can be found here, on our website Labor Day page, and on our website Events page.

We will need donations for the goody bags and hospitality rooms, as well as plenty of volunteers throughout the four to five days of setting up, testing, competition, and cleaning up. All parents, coaches, and siblings who volunteer will not be hindered from preparing, watching and celebrating with their skaters.

Please sign up as soon as you can via VolunteerSpot, or on the paper copy at the rink when it goes up on the wall. We will have a volunteer training meeting before the competition to walk you through the jobs. If you want to volunteer, but don't know, or don't care, which job or time slot you take, then please send an email with your preferred dates and times available to .
Holiday Show

Committee Meeting
There will be a Holiday Show Committee meeting on Saturday, August 8th, 2015 from 9:00 to 10:30 AM. We will meet in one of the party rooms at Germain Arena. Anyone interested in being a part of the committee is welcome to attend. If you cannot attend, but have something you want to be brought up, please email Lynda at and she will make sure we review it.

We have been planning the FEFSC Holiday Show for December 2015 since January this year. Looking ahead, we are now at a point that we would like to know how many skaters we need to be planning for. This year is unlike previous years because we will not have the Learn To Skate skaters participating with us; this will be a club member only show. Please let us know what you think about your skater's participation in our Holiday Show this year by clicking here and taking the survey. You can also access it through our webpage from the Events page

Competition Cheer Form

We have put a Competition Cheer Form on the left side of our Events Page. If skaters who are going to a competition can fill that out as soon as possible, then I will compile the results and send an email out to everyone. Those who are going to be there will be able cheer for fellow club members and those who are not there can cheer from home. Do your best, skate great, and have fun!!
Safe Sport

U.S. Figure Skating and the Florida Everblades Figure Skating Club strive to provide a safe environment for its members, one that is free of abuse and harassment. All of our Board Members will be taking the SafeSport certification program and we encourage all skaters, parents and coaches to follow Safe Sport guidelines.

You can find more information about Safe Sport on our website or on the USFS website. Please contact us with any questions at

Just  a reminder - in light of the recent reports of stranger danger, it is even more important to make sure that each person (child or adult) is aware of their surroundings. Our Media Team will be wearing ID badges during events and any time they are taking pictures for the club.

Parents, please talk to your skaters.Tell them that they can come to any coach, rec employee, or club parent if they feel uncomfortable about any situation. Also tell your skaters to make sure that someone knows where they are if they are not on the Freestyle Ice and have not left for the day. Parents, please remind your skaters to be S.M.A.R.T. (Safety Means Always Recognizing Trouble).

Encourage Doing Great things Everyday!

Have you seen a skater go above and beyond to help or encourage another person (on or off the ice)? Do they excel in academics or art? Do they have another special talent? We want to hear about anything AWESOME a skater has done!

We'd like to recognize Courtney Roppelt for doing great things! Former member and daughter of club coach Karen Roppelt, Courtney just returned from a mission trip to Honduras. She helped run and organize several Vacation Bible Schools for the local youth.

Please email us at with subject line: Project Edge and the skater's name. Give us a brief description of how the skater has been doing great things.  Skater's will be recognized in the newsletter and in the website news.
Project EDGE is a campaign created by Florida Everblades Figure Skating Club to Encourage Doing Great things Everyday in our skaters!

FEFSC CafePress Store
Don't forget to visit our Cafe Press store to find great apparel, gifts, and other items with our logo on it. We have added the Silhouette Mya and more will be added soon - be sure to take a look often!

If you ever want a design on something that isn't in the store, contact us - we may be able to get it.  All proceeds come right back to our club - what a great way to spend your money and support our club at the same time!
