President's Letter
Greetings Club Members,
I keep humming that song by George Benson, “On Broadway”; I can’t get it out of my head! That’s because that is the theme for our Spring Show in partnership with our LTS program. The show will be April 1st and there will be a lot of information coming to you very soon! Please help support our show by participating in the show, selling tickets, promoting the show, and helping on the day of show. It will be a lot of fun!

If you haven’t already done so, please check out the information on our website about ordering photos from our holiday show and show dvd. We apologize that this process took longer than expected but we think you will be pleased with the product.

February flew right by! Our board and committee members have been planning and working hard to prepare for some great opportunities. Just a few weekends ago, Kelly Kruszweski, Lisa Perri, Lynda Rowley, and I participated in an all day workshop presented by USFSA. We learned valuable information that we will use to run an even more successful club. We are happy to share what we learned; just ask us! On this same busy Saturday, many of our club coaches, junior coaches, and volunteers also attended a coaching educational seminar. Thank you Diane Myers, Marisa Miner, Kandis Eckloff, Karen Roppelt, Marianne Bourque, Deanna Velez, Mikaela Brumagin, Nicole Gagilardo, Michelle Gras, and Sarah Geiger for attending! Now we will be turning our attention to our spring show, upcoming testing session, review of our club by-laws, and our annual meeting. Please stay tuned!

As I stated in my last month’s letter, it is important for all club members to be aware of our Safe Sport policies. I began the training process and will continue. Many of our board members and our coaches have been through this training and are completing refresher courses. At any time, please ask us questions. I also promised that I would share a point or two from my experience going through this training with you each month. This past month, I have been reading an extensive overview and definitions. Many of the topics defined, while unpleasant, are already common sense in our minds. This one is a tough one! Willfully Tolerating Misconduct = this is demonstrated when a coach, official, director, employee, parent, or volunteer knows of misconduct, but takes no action to intervene on behalf of the athlete (s), participant (s), staff, and/or volunteer(s). We may not want to be confrontational or quick to judgement, but we can speak up if we witness misconduct. Speaking up is not speaking about but rather privately and with genuine concern speaking with the person(s). If you are extremely uncomfortable about a situation, please talk privately with a coach or board member that you trust and we will help you and the other party.

On a brighter note, we recently held our second annual critique day! All involved gained valuable insight.  Thank you to Kelly Kruszewski for organizing this opportunity! Also, we are super excited to wish club member, Kerry Louderback – Wood, good luck as she travels to Adult Nationals to compete! Skate Great, Kerry!

Volunteer Opportunity
We have a unique opportunity for someone to get all of their volunteer hours for the year over the course of two days. We are flying a judge here from another state who needs a driver for Friday, March 24th, and Saturday, March 25th. This would involve picking her up from the airport, taking her to the hotel, bringing her from the hotel to the rink, then back to the hotel on Friday. Saturday morning, you would need to take her from the hotel to the airport. If you are interested, please contact Lynda or Kelly.
Meal Train
Cari Tyler, the Recreational Assistant Manager/Birthday Coordinator at Germain Arena, had surgery on Thursday, March 2nd, 2017. She had a double mastectomy with reconstruction due to her second bout with breast cancer. They took two lymph nodes as well and both of those tested negative for cancer. Cari went home on Friday, the 3rd, and is resting and recuperating. Although she is sore, she is in good spirits.

We asked Cari what we could help with and her main worry at the moment is meals while she is recuperating. In addition to that, she may need help with getting to and from doctor appointments. Cari also expressed that the medical bills are piling up, which is why we've opened the donations portion of the MealTrain and asked for such a large amount.

Cari has three small children at home ranging in age from 6 years old to just under 2 years old. If you are taking a meal to her and feel that you can, take a package of size 6 diapers and/or wipes (any brand works).

We've added Cari's cell phone number to the Meal Train so that anyone who is going to take a meal or visit can text or call ahead. Now that Cari is getting into the stage of follow up doctor visits, she has asked that you text before coming by so that she can be sure someone will be there. Kelly spent some time with Cari today, Thursday the 9th, and her spirits are still good even though she has quite a bit of pain still. Cari is so thankful for the meals, the supplies and monetary help that has been sent. Click the Meal Train logo above to go directly to the one set up for Cari.Thank you for helping!

Stars on Ice

As many of you know, Stars on Ice is coming! Many of you have been asking if we will have a club special as we have had in the past. The answer is yes! We still don't have all of the details, but we do have the order form for the tickets. You can click here for the form, then email it to Trent at .We will let you know what the rest of the perks are as soon as we get the rest of the details.
FEFSC Board Meeting Minutes

Due to some family emergencies, we were not able to make a quorum for our February meeting - which means that we cannot share the January minutes yet (they must be approved by the board first). We will share the minutes from January's meeting in the next newsletter. The FEFSC Board has chosen to meet on the second Monday of the month. The next board meeting will be on Monday, March 13th 2017 at 5:30 PM in one of the party rooms at Germain Arena. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Do you have a favorite place to buy skating related items? We are working on building a resource page for the website and would like your input. Since we've not been getting many responses, I'm going to ask a question of the month.

Where do you like to buy skating tights?

On the survey page, we've included a spot that you can tell us about your favorite places - please do let us know! You can click here on our survey page or email us at
Safe Sport

U.S. Figure Skating and the Florida Everblades Figure Skating Club strive to provide a safe environment for its members, one that is free of abuse and harassment. All of our Board Members will be taking the SafeSport certification program and we encourage all skaters, parents and coaches to follow Safe Sport guidelines.

You can find more information about Safe Sport on our website or on the USFS website. Please contact us with any questions at

Just  a reminder - in light of the recent reports of stranger danger, it is even more important to make sure that each person (child or adult) is aware of their surroundings. Our Media Team will be wearing ID badges during events and any time they are taking pictures for the club.

Parents, please talk to your skaters.Tell them that they can come to any coach, rec employee, or club parent if they feel uncomfortable about any situation. Also tell your skaters to make sure that someone knows where they are if they are not on the Freestyle Ice and have not left for the day. Parents, please remind your skaters to be S.M.A.R.T. (Safety Means Always Recognizing Trouble).

Encourage Doing Great things Everyday!

Have you seen a skater go above and beyond to help or encourage another person (on or off the ice)? Do they excel in academics or art? Do they have another special talent? We want to hear about anything AWESOME a skater has done!

Please email us at with subject line: Project Edge and the skater's name. Give us a brief description of how the skater has been doing great things.  Skater's will be recognized in the newsletter and in the website news.
Project EDGE is a campaign created by Florida Everblades Figure Skating Club to Encourage Doing Great things Everyday in our skaters!
