President's Letter
Happy August Club Members,

The Harness is here!  The harness is here!  Thank you to all club members and coaches for your patience!  The new and updated harness system has been installed.  Special thanks to Clint Perkins and Kristen Perkins for researching and coordinating this effort.  Another special shout out to club dad, Rick Kruszweski, and Coach Kandis for assisting during the seven hour installation process!!

We are just weeks away from our Labor Day competition and testing weekend.  We depend on our club members and friends to make this event a success!  We need donations for our judges’ hospitality suite and coaches’ refreshment room.  Please check our volunteer spot on our website or speak with any board member.  We also need volunteer jobs filled – again check our website or ask us questions.  Most jobs are quite flexible so it will not interfere with your time preparing, watching, and celebrating with your own skater.

Looking ahead, we are planning socials for September and Halloween, plus it is never too early to prepare for our holiday show!  Please join us for committee meetings – all are welcome.  If you have a business or know of someone who has a business that may be interested – we are looking for show sponsors.  This could be an ad in our program, the t–shirt sponsor, or the presenting sponsor!

Please keep checking our website, email blasts, and facebook posts!  There is a lot going on and we don’t want you to miss out!!

~Skate on!

New Harness
After much research, many board meetings, several measurements, numerous pictures, a multitude of voice mails, a myriad of emails, and I'm sure a few headaches - we now have a new harness system in place. Thank you to Kristen Perkins and Clint Perkins for your research and efforts to get this done. Thank you to Kandis Eckloff for all of your help - before and during the installation. And thank you to Rick Kruszewski for being the assistant to the installer during the 7 hour installation job!

Labor Day Competition

The 14th Annual Labor Day Invitational will be held September 2nd through September 4th, 2016. The entry deadline for this competition has closed.

There will be a Test Session on September 2nd, 2016. The Test Session Entry Form can be accessed here. The deadline to sign up for this test is August 19th, 2016.

For more information, visit our web page dedicated to the competition by clicking the button below.

Competition Photos & Videos
Reel Treasures Video Productions will be taking photos and video during our Labor Day Competition weekend. You MUST pre-order photos/videos in order for the photographer to take the photos/videos of that event. Reel Treasures understands that you do not yet know what your skater's event number or time is - they are asking for your skater's name and event type. Download the photo order form here, and the credit card authorization form here. You can contact Patti at Reel Treasures to get a video order form or if you have further questions. Her email is patti@reeltreasuresvideo.com and their phone number is 239-348-8700.

Volunteers Needed!

As we all know, it takes an army of volunteers to run a competition. There are many spots available during the four days of competition - September 1st through the 4th - and this is a great opportunity for families to work side by side and get their required volunteer hours for membership done. We've been using VolunteerSpot for past few years; however, they have recently change their name and web address to Signup.com. (If you have bookmarked the old website, you might want to update it.)

Sign ups are now open for volunteers for the competition weekend. Please understand that times may change after registrations close; we will be in touch with you to let you know if they do.

Check out the job descriptions listed on our website on the volunteer page (descriptions are also under each job at SignUp.com), and see which jobs you might fit the best. We will have at least one, possibly two, volunteer meetings before the competition in which we will go over any questions you might have.

If you have any questions, please email us at fefsc@fefsc.org. Click the button below to go straight to the SignUp for the Labor Day Competition.

Hospitality Donations Needed!

We are in need of some food items for our Judge, Coach, and Skater Hospitality rooms during the competition weekend. We have put the items onto SignUp.com on a separate link than the one for the volunteers.

We could also use gift cards for Publix, Subway, Costco, or Dunkin' Donuts. If you would like to help with gift cards, or have questions, contact Catherine at hospitality@fefsc.org or Lynda at fefsc@fefsc.org

Inventory Survey

We have so many items stored in many homes and offices that we would like to put together a master list and get an idea of what we have and where it's located. If you are storing FEFSC 'stuff', please click here and fill out the survey - and thank you!!!
Club Apparel
We hope to see all of our club members wearing the club colors - blue and green - during our upcoming Labor Day competition. We do have club apparel available to order in several ways. Check out our FEFSC Store for all the ways to get the FEFSC Logo on a piece of clothing!
FEFSC CafePress Store

Don't forget to visit our Cafe Press store to find great apparel, gifts, and other items with our logo on it. We just added our logo for the upcoming Labor Day Competition! If your skater would like to collect tshirts from the competitions he or she has been in, this would be a great way to do just that.
We now have the Watercolours, Silhouettes, and Inspirations lines and are trying to add something new at least once a month - be sure to take a look often!

If you ever want a design on something that isn't in the store, contact us - we may be able to get it.  All proceeds come right back to our club - what a great way to spend your money and support our club at the same time!
Competition Cheer Form

We have a Competition Cheer Form on the left side of our Events Page at www.fefsc.org/events.
If skaters who are going to a competition can fill that out as soon as possible, then the Media Team will compile the results and send an email out to everyone. Those who are going to be there will be able cheer for fellow club members and those who are not there can cheer from home.
Do your best, skate great, and have fun!!
Video Interviews

Our Media Team Videographer, Emily, will be doing some short video interviews of club members over the next few months. The main question is really a finish the statement - "I like to figure skate because...?" We would like to put a series of these short, but fun videos onto our webpage and social media. And a reminder, Emily will always be wearing a Media badge while taking photos or video for the club.

Resources

Do you have a favorite place to buy skating related items? We are working on building a resource page for the website and would like your input. On the survey page, we've included a spot that you can tell us about your favorite places - please do let us know! You can click here on our survey page or email us at fefsc@fefsc.org.
FEFSC Board Meeting Minutes

Click here to download the meeting minutes from the July 11th, 2016 Board Meeting. The FEFSC Board has chosen to meet on the second Monday of the month. The next board meeting will be on Monday, September 12th, 2016 at 5:30 PM in one of the party rooms at Germain Arena. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Safe Sport

U.S. Figure Skating and the Florida Everblades Figure Skating Club strive to provide a safe environment for its members, one that is free of abuse and harassment. All of our Board Members will be taking the SafeSport certification program and we encourage all skaters, parents and coaches to follow Safe Sport guidelines.

You can find more information about Safe Sport on our website or on the USFS website. Please contact us with any questions at safesport@fefsc.org.

Just  a reminder - in light of the recent reports of stranger danger, it is even more important to make sure that each person (child or adult) is aware of their surroundings. Our Media Team will be wearing ID badges during events and any time they are taking pictures for the club.

Parents, please talk to your skaters.Tell them that they can come to any coach, rec employee, or club parent if they feel uncomfortable about any situation. Also tell your skaters to make sure that someone knows where they are if they are not on the Freestyle Ice and have not left for the day. Parents, please remind your skaters to be S.M.A.R.T. (Safety Means Always Recognizing Trouble).

PROJECT EDGE

Encourage Doing Great things Everyday!

We have two Perkins families in our club and both families were nominated for our August Project Edge award! Both families worked so hard during our July 2nd Food, Fun, & Fireworks Event to sell ice cream and glow items to the crowd. And Clint and Kristen both put a lot of time and effort into getting our new harness installed. Clint, Kelly, Haley, and Taylor, & Brandon, Kristen, Grace and Jason - thank you for showing us how to work hard and play hard as a family unit. And thank you for giving back as a family unit as well!!

ATTENTION COACHES/PARENTS/SKATERS

Have you seen a skater go above and beyond to help or encourage another person (on or off the ice)? Do they excel in academics or art? Do they have another special talent? We want to hear about anything AWESOME a skater has done!

Please email us at media@fefsc.org with subject line: Project Edge and the skater's name. Give us a brief description of how the skater has been doing great things.  Skater's will be recognized in the newsletter and in the website news.

Project EDGE is a campaign created by Florida Everblades Figure Skating Club to Encourage Doing Great things Everyday in our skaters!
