FEFSC - July 2015 Newsletter
View this email in your browser
Happy New Year! This is the very first newsletter of the 2015-2016 Florida Everblades Figure Skating Club year. Earlier this month, you received a letter from our new Club President, Susan Geiger. If you didn't see it, you can still read it by clicking here. Look for a note from Susan as a regular feature in upcoming newsletters.

Because it is a new year for the club, we'd like to ask our members to take a fundraiser survey to tell us what kinds of fundraisers you would like to see our club do this year. Click here, or go to the fundraisers page, to find the survey.

As a quick reminder, if you have not yet renewed (or started) your membership with FEFSC, you can do so by going to the Membership page on our website and either downloading the application and mailing it in OR clicking through to the online application. You can even pay via Paypal this year!

There's a lot of information packed into this newsletter. You can get to a topic quickly just by clicking on the subject in the Table of Contents above.

Thanks for reading ~ Lynda Rowley, Media Team
No Ice/Skatium

Just a reminder that Germain Arena will not have ice from July 12th to July 30th due to the NARCH roller hockey championships. Skatium of Ft. Myers has graciously offered to open to Germain skaters on Tuesdays and Thursdays during those two weeks from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
Labor Day Competition

Our 13th annual Labor Day Invitational will be held September 4th - 6th, 2015. The competition packet can be found on our website on the Labor Day page. All entries must be in by August 7th, 2015. Please sign up via entryeeze.com.

There will be a Test Session on Friday, September 4th, 2015. The test application can be found here, on our website Labor Day page, and on our website Events page.

We will need donations for the goody bags and hospitality rooms, as well as plenty of volunteers throughout the four to five days of setting up, testing, competition, and cleaning up. All parents, coaches, and siblings who volunteer will not be hindered from preparing, watching and celebrating with their skaters.

Please sign up as soon as you can via VolunteerSpot, or on the paper copy at the rink when it goes up on the wall. We will have a volunteer training meeting before the competition to walk you through the jobs. If you want to volunteer, but don't know, or don't care, which job or time slot you take, then please send an email with your preferred dates and times available to volunteercoordinator@fefsc.org .
Competition Cheer Form

We have put a Competition Cheer Form on the left side of our Events Page. If skaters who are going to a competition can fill that out as soon as possible, then I will compile the results and send an email out to everyone. Those who are going to be there will be able cheer for fellow club members and those who are not there can cheer from home. Do your best, skate great, and have fun!!
July 3rd Food, Fireworks, & Fun Event
THANK YOU!!!!!  To all who donated money, food, stuff to sell, or time, thank you so very much for doing so! Despite the fact that it was extremely HOT in the early afternoon and then we got hit with one of the worst thunderstorms of the week, sitting on top of us for about an hour, we still ended up with a great turnout of people and made a better profit than last year.
You can see pictures from the day on our facebook page. If you did not sign up on VolunteerSpot, but did donate money or time, please be sure to send in your information via the Volunteer Log on the website. If you have any questions, please email fefsc@fefsc.org.
Name the Show & Logo Contest

Congratulations to our 2015 Name the Show/Logo Contest Winners!
Here's a sneak peak of just a part of the new show logo!

We ended up with three winners this year!

The winning name came from Mya Russo, "Holiday Movies on Ice".

The winning Logo will be a combination of two spectacular ideas by Sophia Kruszewski and Susan Geiger.

The winners will each receive a gift certificate to use on club items at CafePress. Watch for the debut of the Logo in the coming weeks!

All members who submitted an entry will get a goody during the Halloween party.
Holiday Show Committee Meeting

There will be a Holiday Show Committee meeting on Saturday, August 8th, 2015 from 9:00 to 10:30 AM. We will meet in one of the party rooms at Germain Arena. Anyone interested in being a part of the committee is welcome to attend. If you cannot attend, but have something you want to be brought up, please email Lynda at fefsc@fefsc.org and she will make sure we review it.
Holiday Show Survey

We have been planning the FEFSC Holiday Show for December 2015 since January this year. Looking ahead, we are now at a point that we would like to know how many skaters we need to be planning for. This year is unlike previous years because we will not have the Learn To Skate skaters participating with us; this will be a club member only show. Please let us know what you think about your skater's participation in our Holiday Show this year by clicking here and taking the survey. You can also access it through our webpage from the Events page
Sponsors

Do you own a business, or know someone who does? FEFSC is looking for sponsors for our big events this year. All it takes is $100 or more to get your business logo onto our FEFSC Sponsors page, mentioned on our Facebook page, and into all of our Event Programs for the skating year. Our website has had over 39,000 page views in the past year and is growing every week. Check out our Sponsorship Page to find out more information about being a sponsor.
Southern Edge Ice Academy Clinic

FEFSC would like to thank Steve Casey, Scott Cudmore, Danielle Larson and the Southern Edge Ice Academy for organizing a terrific week long clinic. Associate members: Erin, Grace P., Osa, and Zoe and home members: Sarah, Sara, Grace L., Laurel, Aspen, Amia, Hannah P, Hannah D, Emery, Addy, Ansley, Nicole, Asya, Aaron, Carol, Kristin, Gabi, Veronica, Anna, Taylor, Hayley, Kiley, and Jenna had a great week of learning from our home and guest coaches.
Calling all Coaches!

We love our coaches and are trying hard to show it! Thank you for all that you do for our skaters. We really do appreciate you.

The Coach Appreciation Committee has come up with some clever ways so far this year to show our appreciation and we can't wait to see what else they do!

The Media Team, however, needs your help.
We are trying to update the Coaches Bios so that they all have the same format. This is an updated version of the form you were asked to fill out last September.

You can fill out the form electronically
here or email Lynda at fefsc@fefsc.org for an email copy. We know that any traffic we can drive to our website will also see that we have some of the greatest coaches around! Thanks again for all that you do!

Safe Sport

U.S. Figure Skating and the Florida Everblades Figure Skating Club strive to provide a safe environment for its members, one that is free of abuse and harassment. All of our Board Members will be taking the SafeSport certification program and we encourage all skaters, parents and coaches to follow Safe Sport guidelines.

You can find more information about Safe Sport on our website or on the USFS website. Please contact us with any questions at safesport@fefsc.org.

 PROJECT EDGE

Encourage Doing Great things Everyday!

ATTENTION COACHES/PARENTS/SKATERS

Have you seen a skater go above and beyond to help or encourage another person (on or off the ice)? Do they excel in academics or art? Do they have another special talent? We want to hear about anything AWESOME a skater has done!

Please email us at media@fefsc.org with subject line: Project Edge and the skater's name. Give us a brief description of how the skater has been doing great things.  Skater's will be recognized in the newsletter and in the website news.

Project EDGE is a campaign created by Florida Everblades Figure Skating Club to Encourage Doing Great things Everyday in our skaters!
