President's Letter

Time is flying by – don’t you agree!  It seems like yesterday we were enjoying the holiday show and cheering on club members, Zoe and Paxton, at Nationals!  We owe a special thank you to the Feminella family for opening their home for our club to meet together for the Nationals Watch Party.  Then we hopped right over to our Valentine’s Social and skate gear sale – if you missed these events, please join us for our next gatherings.  We all had a lot of fun and we would love for more members to join in.  That’s how we all get to know each other better, make new friends, and really start to connect as a club.

There will be many emails, flyers, and facebook posts during the next three months so please read thoroughly, ask questions, give feedback, and sign up!  Thank you to club members, Diane Myers, Marcela Petrasovic, BJ Hamilton, and Kelly Daniak for giving us some great ideas and suggestions.  Good luck to all club skaters competing at President’s Day!

Everyone – please join us at PDQ on Monday the 15th for our very first fundraiser with this local eatery.  Make sure you pick up a flyer and tell the cashier that you are with the Florida Everblades Figure Skating Club!

Skaters – talk with your coaches if the upcoming critique is for you!  This is an exciting and very valuable opportunity for our club.  We will have expert judges and specialists to give “another set of eyes” and feedback on your programs.  There will be a sign up on our website.

As we set to roll into spring, we will be planning more socials, test sessions, our annual meeting, the spring show with LTS, and our annual banquet.  Please read all communications so you don’t miss a thing!  Also, I ask you to consider if you would be willing to run for a board member position.  We vote on the board positions at our annual meeting in April.  Please submit nominations to me, Lynda Rowley, or Kristy Russo.  You can submit via email or speak to one of us personally.  You can nominate yourself or another club member.   These nominations are due by March 12th (same day as the critique, so easy to remember).  I hope everyone has a sweet Valentine’s Weekend, good luck to club skaters testing at the end of the month, and see you at PDQ!!!

The FEFSC will be hosting a Program Critique on Saturday, March 12 starting at 12:15 PM. Both IJS and 6.0 Skaters can register to perform their free program, their short program or both. We are thrilled to have U.S. Figure Skating IJS National Technical Specialist, Nancy Ruedebusch, and USFS National Judge, Christie Cullen-Williams for this event.

The cost for the critique will be:

* $40 per program for an FEFSC member

* $50 per program for a non-club member.

Skaters will be broken down into groups to allow for a brief warm up. Immediately following the conclusion of ALL the programs, each skater and their coach(es) will meet separately with the judge and technical specialist for feedback. If you have a skater you’d like to see take advantage of this pre-season opportunity, please have them sign up with the club via the FEFSC website, then pay via paypal in the column on the same webpage. If you have any questions, please email us at

Space is limited - sign up today!!

PDQ Family Fun Event

If you don't know what PDQ is, it is a fast casual restaurant in Gulf Coast Town Center that specializes in hand-breaded chicken tenders, fresh salads and sandwiches, fresh-cut fries and hand-spun milkshakes. You can check out their menu and learn more about them at their website.

PDQ has offered to partner with FEFSC for a fundraising event! On President's Day, Monday, February 15th - from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, stop into PDQ or go through their drive through and order some of their delicious food. Let them know that you are with FEFSC by telling them or handing them one of our tickets and we will get a portion of your total sale! Enjoy!

Spring Show Survey
The Learn To Skate/FEFSC Spring Show will take place on Saturday, April 16th, 2016. All club numbers will be group numbers; each club member will be in one number as well as the opening number.
We are trying to keep costs as low as possible for this show, but we cannot honestly gauge the costs until we know the number of skaters that we will have performing in our club numbers. The final costs will be determined when we have the final numbers.
The deadline for this survey is March 1st, 2016. We really need to know if you are in any way interested in your skater being in this show. Saying yes in this survey does not mean that you are signing a contract, only that you are telling us you are interested depending on what the contract says. Thank you in advance for taking the time to fill it out and communicate with us!

Thank you,
FEFSC Board of Directors & FEFSC Show Committee

Do you have a favorite place to buy skating related items? We are working on building a resource page for the website and would like your input. On the survey page, we've included a spot that you can tell us about your favorite places - please do let us know! You can click the button above or click here. You can also check us out on Facebook and reply to the post pinned to the top of our Facebook page.
Calling All Coaches!
This is a reminder to the coaches that the Media Team is also working on updating the Coaches Page. Please fill out the Coaches Form as soon as possible so that we can get the page updated by March 1st. Thank you!

FEFSC CafePress Store
Don't forget to visit our Cafe Press store to find great apparel, gifts, and other items with our logo on it. We now have the Watercolours, Silhouettes, and Inspirations lines and are trying to add something new at least once a month - be sure to take a look often!

If you ever want a design on something that isn't in the store, contact us - we may be able to get it.  All proceeds come right back to our club - what a great way to spend your money and support our club at the same time!
Safe Sport

U.S. Figure Skating and the Florida Everblades Figure Skating Club strive to provide a safe environment for its members, one that is free of abuse and harassment. All of our Board Members will be taking the SafeSport certification program and we encourage all skaters, parents and coaches to follow Safe Sport guidelines.

You can find more information about Safe Sport on our website or on the USFS website. Please contact us with any questions at

Just  a reminder - in light of the recent reports of stranger danger, it is even more important to make sure that each person (child or adult) is aware of their surroundings. Our Media Team will be wearing ID badges during events and any time they are taking pictures for the club.

Parents, please talk to your skaters.Tell them that they can come to any coach, rec employee, or club parent if they feel uncomfortable about any situation. Also tell your skaters to make sure that someone knows where they are if they are not on the Freestyle Ice and have not left for the day. Parents, please remind your skaters to be S.M.A.R.T. (Safety Means Always Recognizing Trouble).

Encourage Doing Great things Everyday!

Have you seen a skater go above and beyond to help or encourage another person (on or off the ice)? Do they excel in academics or art? Do they have another special talent? We want to hear about anything AWESOME a skater has done!

This month we have two coaches being recognized for their perseverance. The definition of perseverance is -  steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. Our very own Coach Lisa Perri and Coach Kandis Eckloff showed us all how to persevere during the season of the FEFSC Holiday Show. Coach Lisa dealt with broken bones and surgery and a move. Coach Kandis dealt with travel for a funeral, a move, and health issues of her own, spending the day of the show in a wheelchair. These two make quite the pair and we couldn't ask for better role models for our skaters. Thank you Coach Lisa and Coach Kandis for Encouraging us to Do Great things Everyday!

Please email us at with subject line: Project Edge and the skater's name. Give us a brief description of how the skater has been doing great things.  Skater's will be recognized in the newsletter and in the website news.
Project EDGE is a campaign created by Florida Everblades Figure Skating Club to Encourage Doing Great things Everyday in our skaters!
