President's Letter

Happy Spring!

Road to Rio! The spring show is down the road in less than a month! I realize that this time only a fraction of our club skaters are able to participate but I strongly encourage all of us to support this endeavor. The skaters will have a lot of fun plus this will be a great segway to our annual membership drive.

Our first critique day was a success! I think all coaches, parents, and skaters got a lot out of this day of feedback. I have received personal emails from both our judges stating how much they enjoyed our hospitality and working with our skaters. Special thanks to the Rowley ladies – their Karalynn could not skate that day but they all spent the entire time helping out in this event! Thank you to Kristy Russo and Catherine Feminella for all your help with music and getting the refreshments for our judges. Coach Lisa – thank you for coordinating with our judges and teaching us how a critique day should be run! We all learned a lot and we are looking forward to the next one.

Very soon in the snail mail, you will receive a form for board position nominations. We did ask for this electronically but in careful review of our by- laws, we realized that we are required to do this by mail as well. Please return these nominations ASAP! You will be receiving another email and letter by snail mail shortly thereafter regarding our annual membership meeting. This meeting is a time for voting for board members and Q-n- A. This meeting will be on April 29th; we will announce the time soon.

Here’s what’s coming ahead for us as a club:
  •             Spring Show
  •             Spring Test Session
  •             Voting for board members
  •             Annual Banquet
  •             Annual membership drive
  •             The Harness
  •             Planning for our annual holiday show (yes, really)
Please take advantage of all our ways of communication:  email blasts, personal email messages, bulletin board, flyers, facebook posts, twitter feeds – and coming - soon group texts!  We don’t want any of you to miss information!  Please do your part and read, respond, ask!

Annual Meeting & Nominations Letter

As Susan mentioned in her letter, those of you who are active home club members should have received a letter about nominations for the election of board members for the Florida Everblades Figure Skating Club. Nominations can only be made by voting members; voting members are home club members who have reached the age of 18 years old. The nomination letter was mailed out or handed out in the past few days, so please be on the look out for them. We are sorry for any misunderstanding the former emails may have caused.
The date for the Annual Meeting has been set for April 29th, 2016. We have not yet decided for sure on the time and will get that news out to everyone as soon as it is decided. You will received a letter by mail in a few weeks that will tell you who is on the ballot, as well as the meeting date, time, and place. We will post the meeting date, time, and place on the bulletin board at the rink and on our website too. Please be sure to vote - your vote is important!

Spring Show

The Road to Rio - Going for Gold! is the theme of this year's collaborative show between FEFSC and Germain Arena's Learn-to-Skate program and it promises to make you want to skate - or at least dance! Tickets are $10 per person, children 3 and under are FREE! Tickets may be bought at the door, or on our website at www.fefsc.org/events via paypal.

Please feel free to print the above flyer and share at your local library, church, school, etc. (ask if it's okay first!). We'll be sending out an email in the next few days that is basically an advertisement for the show - this is so that you can forward it to your local friends and share it on facebook. Please help us to get the word out so that we can fill the seats.

Those of you who are participating with the club in the Spring Show, we appreciate your patience and your hard work. We will be sending separate emails to Spring Show participants only with any information (including the practice schedule) that you need; however, if you have a question, please don't hesitate to contact us. You can email Lynda at fefsc@fefsc.org and she will get your question to the right person.
Committee Meeting

The FEFSC Show/Social Committee is going to meet at the rink on Monday, March 28th at 6:30 PM. Anyone who would like to join us is welcome. If you would like to have some input, but can't join us - please email your questions, concerns, ideas, etc to Lynda at fefsc@fefsc.org and she will make sure that your voice is heard.
Volunteer Hours

We have collectively served over 600 volunteer hours so far this year! What an awesome bunch of people we have in this club!! Many of you have already fulfilled your 10 hours required to be a club member and still keep coming and helping and we are so very much appreciative of your helping hands. Some of you still need a few hours to get to your 10 hours, and some haven't even started yet - the Spring Show is a good time to put some of those hours in. We will be putting the VolunteerSpot button out on the website within the next week on our Events Page.
If you need to know how many hours you have served, contact Lynda at fefsc@fefsc.org.
And please, even if you've surpassed your 10 hour quota, we would love to have your help if you are able and available!
Resources
Do you have a favorite place to buy skating related items? We are working on building a resource page for the website and would like your input. On the survey page, we've included a spot that you can tell us about your favorite places - please do let us know! You can click here on our survey page. You can also check us out on Facebook and reply to the post pinned to the top of our Facebook page.
Thank You Coaches!

The Coaches Page has been updated with the information of all the coaches who filled out a coaches form. We also included all Germain Arena coaches and their basic information in a table at the bottom of the page.
Our Coaches Page is the second top visited page in the last thirty days and is always in the top ten pages visited on our website. We love our coaches and want to make sure they are recognized for the professionals that they are.
If you are a Germain coach and would like to have one of the blocks with more information in them on our coaches page, please fill out the Coaches Form.  Thank you!
FEFSC Board Meeting Minutes

Click here to download the meeting minutes from the February 8th, 2016 Board Meeting. The FEFSC Board has chosen to meet on the second Monday of the month. The next board meeting will be on Monday, April 11th, 2016 at 5:30 PM in one of the party rooms at Germain Arena. Everyone is welcome to attend.
FEFSC CafePress Store

Don't forget to visit our Cafe Press store to find great apparel, gifts, and other items with our logo on it. We just added our logo for the upcoming Spring Show! If your skater would like to collect patches or tshirts from the shows he or she has been in, this would be a great way to do just that.
We now have the Watercolours, Silhouettes, and Inspirations lines and are trying to add something new at least once a month - be sure to take a look often!

If you ever want a design on something that isn't in the store, contact us - we may be able to get it.  All proceeds come right back to our club - what a great way to spend your money and support our club at the same time!
Safe Sport

U.S. Figure Skating and the Florida Everblades Figure Skating Club strive to provide a safe environment for its members, one that is free of abuse and harassment. All of our Board Members will be taking the SafeSport certification program and we encourage all skaters, parents and coaches to follow Safe Sport guidelines.

You can find more information about Safe Sport on our website or on the USFS website. Please contact us with any questions at safesport@fefsc.org.

Just  a reminder - in light of the recent reports of stranger danger, it is even more important to make sure that each person (child or adult) is aware of their surroundings. Our Media Team will be wearing ID badges during events and any time they are taking pictures for the club.

Parents, please talk to your skaters.Tell them that they can come to any coach, rec employee, or club parent if they feel uncomfortable about any situation. Also tell your skaters to make sure that someone knows where they are if they are not on the Freestyle Ice and have not left for the day. Parents, please remind your skaters to be S.M.A.R.T. (Safety Means Always Recognizing Trouble).

PROJECT EDGE

Encourage Doing Great things Everyday!

ATTENTION COACHES/PARENTS/SKATERS

Have you seen a skater go above and beyond to help or encourage another person (on or off the ice)? Do they excel in academics or art? Do they have another special talent? We want to hear about anything AWESOME a skater has done!

The Sykes Family has been nominated as a family that goes above and beyond to help others. Aaron, Asya, and Tammy are often found at the rink volunteering their time and skills when they are not even participants in a program. When show preparations are underway, their prop making skills are absolutely awesome! We appreciate the Sykes Family for Encouraging us to Do Great things Everyday!

Please email us at media@fefsc.org with subject line: Project Edge and the skater's name. Give us a brief description of how the skater has been doing great things.  Skater's will be recognized in the newsletter and in the website news.

Project EDGE is a campaign created by Florida Everblades Figure Skating Club to Encourage Doing Great things Everyday in our skaters!
Competition Cheer Form

We have a Competition Cheer Form on the left side of our Events Page at www.fefsc.org/events.
If skaters who are going to a competition can fill that out as soon as possible, then the Media Team will compile the results and send an email out to everyone. Those who are going to be there will be able cheer for fellow club members and those who are not there can cheer from home.
Do your best, skate great, and have fun!!
