Hello <<First Name>>,

I am excited to be sending my first newsletter! Thank you very much for signing up. A lot has happened in these last months, so I’d like to dive right into a few updates about the Westminster Dog Show, the Art Show at the Dog Show, my portrait of THE PLAYERS champion Tiger Woods, and my Chris Duke Art Store hosted by Amazon.

I had a terrific time at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in February. It was a great honor to be on the Madison Square Garden floor for the presentation of the profits from the sale of my new poster to the American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation.

I loved meeting devoted dog people, a fine self-selected group. Meeting people, greeting dogs, and signing prints of my poster made for a great day. On two posters, I wrote in Portuguese! (Although I admit I transcribed the dedication from a neatly written note...) The response was just wonderful. We completely sold out of the posters.

Watching stellar dogs and their handlers pass my table at the show, I couldn’t help but remember the bar room scene in the first STAR WARS movie where there is a beautiful equality between the species. Little dogs and big dogs all possess their own particular dignity and high style. The handlers are their mere facilitators to shine. Witnessing such reciprocity between the species, it struck me that dog people attending their dogs, with their great care and sensitivity, represent a true model of stewardship for the entire planet.

I was intrigued that even the zaniest dog (Banana Joe is my candidate, as he would jump two times his height with sheer joy) studies the handler with absolute eagerness to please.

Art Show at the Dog Show, March-April 2014

I was very proud that four of my drawings were exhibited at the 28th Annual Art Show at the Dog Show, the largest dog art exhibition in the country. The show took place from March 1st to April 7th in Wichita, Kansas.

My Cairn Terrier portrait won two awards, which was an honor. Proceeds from the show benefit the American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog.

Portrait of Tiger Woods, 2013 PLAYERS Champion, March 2014

Portrait of Tiger Woods, 2013 PLAYERS Champion, March 2014

I was overjoyed that Tiger Woods won THE PLAYERS title again in 2013, and was delighted to paint him in the context of his second Sawgrass victory after having painted his 2001 triumph years before.

Painting THE PLAYERS winner is a highlight for me each year. For each champion’s portrait, I start with a sketch, and then do a portrait of just the winner’s head. The final step is to complete the portrait by adding various vignettes and text. All of my framed original artwork hangs in the picturesque Sawgrass clubhouse in Ponte Vedra, Florida.

Many people have told me they would like to own one of my works of art, or a printed version of one. I gave this a great deal of thought, and decided creating an online store would be a perfect way to offer a variety of items featuring my artwork. I grin at the thought that my art may make others grin as they relax in their homes, drink a cup of coffee, or look up from their desk at the office.

Therefore, I am very excited to announce that my Amazon-hosted Chris Duke Art Store is open! I am offering a growing selection of:
  • Limited Edition Giclée Prints of selected artwork. My 2013 Westminster Dog Show art, “Inside Westminster,” is now available, either framed or unframed. This art, a finalist in the 2013 poster competition, depicts the "story" of 2012 Westminster, and hopefully evokes the story of every dog show. It is a series of vignettes illustrating the stages of the Westminster show - from bathing, blow drying and primping, to parading across the floor, and finally, the presentation of the winning dogs.
  • Coffee/Tea Mugs with images of my artwork, including dog art and floral art.
  • Men’s and Women’s T-shirts with images of my artwork, including dog-themed art and floral art.

Spring is here! I hope to brighten people’s days – both in spring, and throughout the year – with mugs featuring delicate and inscrutable irises, amorous cats, and playful love-themed words and phrases. A cup of coffee or tea is even more delicious with a hint of floral mystery and light-hearted romance.

As I expand my collection of fine art prints, I am delighted to add a print of my “Iris Explained” watercolor, pen & ink painting just as we enter iris season.

Thank you very much for subscribing! As always, I would love to hear from you. Please feel free to respond to this email, or email me directly at ChrisDuke@ChrisDukeArt.com.
