ART by XARA THUSTRA & SIOBHAN ALUVALOT

Xara Thustra  is a  painter, print maker,  filmmaker, installation and performance artist, who has lived and worked in San Francisco for more than 15 years. Emerging out of the Mission School  alongside  Chris Johanson, Barry McGee, and Xylor Jane, Xara's  art shows have spanned  museum,  high end galleries, DIY spaces, squats and the streets.  Xara's large scale murals which dotted the cityscape of San Francisco were icons of the anti gentrification movements and anti war movements, and along with many others Xara was  a key player in the seminal 949 Market Street Squat and Anti Capitalist Fashion Show.More recently Xara has taken up filmmaking and elaborate performance art often in collaboration Siobhan Aluvolot. and taking his painting motifs into elaborate set design and green screen work.  Xara's art shows are renowned  for delicious free food and an egalitarian spirit of possibility.   LAST Projects is pleased to present a new body of  serial paintings that push his recurring figurative motifs towards  abstraction from and continue a standing interest in  wordplay .

Siobhan Aluvolot is a filmmaker, editor, dj, costume designer, performance artists, and one half of the filmmaking and performance art duo of Lovewarz Wallwerks with Xara Thustra. She is exhibiting  her collages publicly for the first time and the curation and interplay with Xara's serial paintings is kinetic and mutable, and color soaked like the layered and shifting  frames of their videos . Xara and Siobhan's art is tactile and generous and invites participation, ennabling the fevered flourishing of  a temporary autonomous zone,  and a radical community of the open hearted.
