Welcome to the online course GIS for Health Researchers
Dear Student,

Greetings and welcome to the ICT in Health Research program. Introduction to GIS for Health Researchers online course. We are excited to be leading you in a discovery of the fundamentals of various ICT tools that will be helpful for health researchers. This training is offered to you through a grant from the Fogarty International Center and is led by the University of Washington, University of Nairobi, and Kenyatta National Hospital.  At the University of Washington, the program is facilitated by the Global Health E-Learning Program (eDGH) and Treatment, Research, and Expert Education (TREE).  At the University of Nairobi, the School of Computing and Informatics is implementing the course.

Accessing the Course 
For the online portion of the course, we will use the Canvas Learning Management System. You can log in to the system at You will be required to create a Canvas account if you do not already have one.

About This Course
This course will be conducted online for seven weeks.

In the online portion of the course, you should expect to spend about three to four hours per week viewing lectures, reading supplemental articles, and participating in discussion forums.
You will get an introduction to various ICT tools that will be helpful for health researchers. These tools include research databases, bibliographic management software, and desktop productivity software. Knowing what’s available will help you select the right tools for your research projects. The course faculty from the University of Washington is Dr. Mathew Dunbar.
