Rolex Middle Sea Race

Club Member Murray Wilkes in his Bavaria 50 Vision competed in this years 35th edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race. A record fleet of 122 yachts departed Grand Harbour in Malta on the 18th October and after 3 days of frustratingly light winds leaving the fleet regularly becalmed, they were hit front and centre by the high latitude hurricane ‘Gonzales' after it had passed through the UK killing several people. The fleet was largely devestated and only 50 of the 122 yachts finished, with some losing masts and one abandoned.

'Bella Sassy' was at the time sailing well with Murray delighted with his new yacht’s performance. He plans to leave the yacht in Malta and compete again next year with hopes to also compete in the Giraglia Rolex Cup in France next June.
