The National Pies Launceston to Hobart Information Night

Despite a very cold day with a top temp of 8, the information night was very well attended with 40 prospective entrants represented. Many thanks to Malcolm Copper (Kaiulani), Michael Hutchinson (Emotional Rescue) and Peter Haros (Wings Three) for sharing their experiences about preparing to compete in previous races.

This years event is shaping up to be the biggest ever. You will be able to watch the race progress on the new YB Trackers or come down to the docks and visit the #1 meeting place over the Christmas/New Year Period ~ the
National Pies Launceston to Hobart Yacht Race Village.

If you are interested in competing or helping out over this busy time please contact Michael on 6223 1977 or email
National Pies L2H Website ~ Entries now open
Another new event this season will be the
Helly Hansen Coastal Series comprising of: Run as individual events, but there will be some great prizes on offer for those competing in all three.

“At Home” is a traditional and regular feature on the social calendar at the Derwent Sailing Squadron where we design an informal social setting where members have the opportunity to meet new and continuing Flag Officers and Committee members.

This year our chef will present a selection of Hot and Cold Canapes from around the world, local seafood including Tasmanian Oysters and a glass of Joseph Cromey Sparkling to get you started.  The entertainment for the evening will be provided by the Boon's Olive Church band joined by Jordan Kerr who will bring you jazz and dance tunes from 7 to 10pm. These four talented conservatorium students will sooth your souls and loosen your dance moves, so step-on-up, and come-on-down, to the At Home!

Please make your booking for this event by 16th August by calling
the DSS on 6223 1977

The Trivia night held in July at the Squadron attracted a crowd with close to 100 participants who enjoyed the challenging questions of our entertaining Quiz Master Allan Dickins. Thank you to all who attended on the night.

An amazing amount of $2132.40 was raised on the night with a presentation to Jane Crosswell from Cancer Council Tasmania to take place at our members night on Friday 5th August.

Saturday night was an absolute "hoot". Best and funniest night I've had for a long while (and the World's supply of Neurofen had dwindled by next morning!).  Thanks again. It was great, but have to watch more commercial television.

Cheers, Buggy (Immediate past captain of the highly successful "Bee Buggered" team)
