Dear Science Center Friend,
This pandemic marks a very important moment in science. As we have sheltered in place and take every precaution to prevent the spread of COVID19, the world is putting a lot of stock in scientists’ ability to help stop the spread of this novel virus.  We are thankful for the teams of researchers from around the globe who are using science to work on treatments, new testing and vaccines to combat this challenging virus.

Validation, critical thinking and problem solving is what science is all about. But they don’t just appear out of thin air. Scientific breakthroughs come from honing a culture of science in which curiosity and innovation are celebrated and supported.  They come from human beings who have been taught how to think independently, creatively and know how to use scientific tools to innovate new ideas.
The Sitka Sound Science Center is dedicated to scientific research and science education in Alaska. We are not working directly on COVID19 vaccines nor are we developing new treatments, but we are teaching students to be our future problem solvers, and the research we facilitate creates new understandings that will help navigate us through the future challenges of our lifetime and beyond.
There has never been a more crucial time to invest in the future of science education and research. We hope you will consider a donation to Sitka Sound Science Center so that we may continue in our mission of science education and research.
