Dear Subscribers,

We are all facing new challenges and unprecedented times.  The Sitka Sound Science Center gang hopes you are staying safe and healthy during the Covid19 pandemic. Our organization is responding in creative ways to the challenges that the virus has thrust upon research and education. We plan to continue to be a resource for the people in the communities we serve. While our doors are closed to the public, the salmon hatchery and the aquarium are still operational.  Our staff has developed creative and engaging online content, is helping the school district deliver distance STEM education, and is assisting landslide, ocean science and other researchers conduct their work remotely. We are close to being done with the Sitka Sawmill Rehabilitation project, but the work has slowed down as our contractors take CDC precautionary measures. Much of our staff is working from home, while those looking after living creatures are still taking care of the fish and invertebrates.

Meanwhile, we hope you are using science to navigate these troubled times: Validate your news sources, use critical thinking to make important decisions, make careful observations of the world around you and together we will problem solve how to get through this.

Wishing you all the best, and remember to stay safe, wash your hands, and enjoy your families and loved ones as much as possible.

Sincerely,

Lisa Busch, Executive Director
