Local Yogurt Sales Increase in 2020 in Six-State Region
ADA North East has 16.8% of the total U.S. yogurt retail share, showing a 0.6% sales increase at the end of 2020, versus a year ago. A few year-end highlights include:
  • Greek yogurt makes up 42.5% of all yogurt sales 
  • Whole fat yogurt is up 1.3% 
  • Low fat yogurt gained 2.8% 
  • Flavors strawberry blend, vanilla and plain had largest sales gains, each more than 15% 
  • Multi-serve containers of yogurt increased by 15.4%, and multi-pack by 2.6%

Lactose-Free Dairy Increasing in Sales Year After Year

Increased lactose-intolerance in consumers is driving demand for lactose-free dairy products. According to Dr. Amy Boileau, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs at National Dairy Council, retail results show the lactose-free fluid milk category grew 19 percent in 2020. Dr. Boileau explains the science behind lactose intolerance and reports the increasing sales data showing the demand for lactose-free milk and other dairy products in this interview.
