“Keep Calm, We are Opening Soon!"

Hello to all our students at CRCC.
This week we would like to advise you of our plans for re-opening to our community and what the near future will look like at CRCC.

A MESSAGE FROM THE CRCC TEAM

Following the gradual easing of COVID-19 restrictions in Victoria, Maroondah Council have reviewed their rulings on use of Council facilities.

They are now allowing Council facilities (including Community Centre buildings) to open for some small groups that comply with current restrictions with regard to social distancing, hygiene, number limitations and reporting requirements. However they have announced that

Council’s position is that only existing community centre/house programs should be run at Council facilities under the current stage of restrictions, with the exception of externally run childcare, emergency relief or community support services (e.g. alcoholics anonymous). Therefore there should be no hire of facilities by external organisations at present. This position will be reviewed as social distancing requirements change.

This means that, in the foreseeable future we will be able to restart some of our own to face-to-face classes, and we couldn't be more excited 😃 At this stage this will be inline with the start of School Term 3, the middle of July.

While we will be returning to some sense of "normality" in July, this will be a NEW normal. We are putting many practices in place to keep our community safe and healthy during this time. We are aware that this may seem daunting or "overkill", but we wish to assure you that everything we are doing is for your best interest.

Some processes we have put in place include installing hand sanitising stations at all entrances, antibacterial wipes and sprays available in each room to disinfect surfaces, recording the name and contact number of every individual that enters the building for possible contact tracing, and reducing access to "high risk" areas such as the kitchen.

Until further notice our kitchens will be closed. You will still be able to access the taps for water, but unfortunately we will not be providing tea and coffee or any crockery or cutlery. We encourage all our centre users to bring along a water bottle and/or hot drink, this will minimise the need for using kitchens.

We hope you understand that these are all reasonable measures we have to put in place in order to allow the community to access our centre safely.

Celebrating and recognising National Reconciliation Week 2020

To honour and recognise National Reconciliation week 2020, we got our hands dirty and planted 60 native indigenous plants in our community garden and its surrounds.

We still have so much to learn of the history of this area and are proud to acknowledge the traditional owners of this land, the Warrunjuri people. We pay our respects to their elders, past, present and emerging. May we learn from their rich history and culture, to help us all be the custodians our land needs us to be.

This native corridor joins the revegitation bushland to the east with the remnant bushland to the west of the garden.

Holiday Language Immersion

We are offering online language classes for;Mandarin, Spanish & Italian
These will be Online classes delivered via ZOOM.

Mandarin: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 6:30pm - 7:30pm, for 2 weeks
Starting on the 29th June.
Spanish: Monday & Tuesday, 7:30am to 9:00pm for two weeks
Starting July 1^st to July 9^th
Italian: Wednesday & Thursday, 2:00om – 3:30pm
Starting July 1^st to July 9^th

You will gain basic conversation skills and general knowledge of the language and culture.
The cost of each course is $100.

A small number of our staff are working from the office in the mornings, taking calls and replying to messages and emails. If you would like to speak with someone directly, please call between 9am and 12 noon Monday to Thursday. The remaining office staff members are continuing to work from home.
