Happy Anniversary Rotary Foundation

President AnneA man named Arch Krumph is the instigator for this month’s Rotary Theme of Rotary Foundation. One hundred years ago he suggested that Rotary start an endowment fund that could finance good works for the world. The first contribution was $26.50 from the Rotary Club of Kansas City, Missouri. The Rotary Foundation did not do well for several decades until the death of Paul Harris. Before his death, Mr. Harris made it known that he did not care for monuments and words of praise and requested that persons donate to the Rotary Foundation. Within six months of his death, the Rotary Foundation had over $1.3 million. As you now know, the Rotary Foundation has grown immensely since then with Rotarians from all over the world making annual contributions. We can see the benefits in our own city. Through the district grant program which is funded by Rotary Foundation, we were able to donate $2,000 to the PALS program this year. Because of our grant, other companies and individuals matched our gift for an additional $2,000 to PALS to fund the purchase of tables and chairs. Giving is contagious. Our local Rotary clubs were able to get an international grant of over $50,000 to assist in the financing of the Franciscan Workers Sanitation Project which just opened recently. Now the homeless have a safe place to shower and sign up for services. Mr. Krumph took a step 100 years ago and each time we make a donation to the Rotary Foundation we take another step to doing good things in this world. Congratulations to all of you for your generous support to the Rotary Foundation.

President Anne

Tis the Season

CaryThe Salvation Army of Salinas is here to assist the communities of Salinas and the Salinas Valley with essential services assisting individuals and families. A big part of their annual funding comes from the annual Red Kettle drive. We Steinbeck Rotarians call this "Bell Ringing" and we are once again looking for volunteers to help ring the bell, put a sweater on your dog and stand pretty by the Red Kettle while providing holiday cheer.
