President Becky Annual Recap

President BeckyJune marks the last month of ‘my Rotary year.’ This time last year I was approaching the beginning of my year as president with some fear and anticipation. As it turns out, there was plenty to do to keep me busy, and we have a tremendous support team—the membership and the Board of Directors. The members of the board kept leading the way for me, and you, the members, kept the mood wonderful and light. Thank you for your support!

We have had a busy and productive year. We started off with the fireworks sale—lots of work, and we made some money along the way. Ombeline arrived in August, and she has been a joy for our club. The Giants lost, but we enjoyed the Sunday afternoon game in late August. The November gala at the Western Stage was a new event to support our community stage players and to have some social time together. We had some fun at the tailgate party, honoring the Renaissance students. I was in San Francisco when we had our holiday party at Rancho Cielo, but this was a joyful event that our members look forward to attending. We remained loyal to our bell-ringing commitment with some help from our Interact members. Along the way we honored our Students of the Month, and the ASB kept us informed of the events and highlights at Everett Alvarez High School. We helped out at the Sea Otter Classic and have been rewarded with a favorable sum of funds. The All-Star Basketball event continues to grow; the attendance was higher than previous years. Then end-of-year school events—Top 100 Dinner and graduation—were very special to me. I got to see many of our Interact and ASB students-- that I have known since their freshman year—receive honors and scholarships for all their hard work and achievement. Most of all, it was a wonderful delight to see Anne’s idea of the brew fest and community pride event give us the promise of a truly signature annual event for our club. This was such a success that it can only get better and better!

In terms of our community, I am grateful that 3 clubs, including Steinbeck, came together to work with the Franciscan Workers (Dorothy’s Kitchen) on a sanitation project. The seeds have been sown to bring in more resources from other clubs throughout the district and some global partners to sustain this project! We continue to help the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County and, of course, the students at EAHS. Congratulations to our Interact club members who raised a tremendous amount of funds for the Wendy Baker Foundation cancer research fund and Relay for Life.

I continue to be grateful for your support. You are a gift to the world!

Yours in Rotary Service,

President Becky

Steinbeck's Home Brew Fest

EAHSThe First Annual Steinbeck's Home Brew Fest and Street Faire was a major success. We have received positive feedback from our sponsors,  participants, partners and especially our home brewers.  We really look forward to making this event an annual Salinas tradition.

Huge congratulations goes to our incoming President, Anne Olsen, for organizing our first Steinbeck's Home Brew Fest and Street Faire. Yes, Anne had a great team supporting her but she made it all happen. Would you like to participate in next year's event? It's never too early to contact us. We will keep you posted on upcoming events at
