September at Mercantile Center: A Look Back!

Not only has so much happened during September, but it was also Mercantile Center's 3 year anniversary! It's been very special month!

Celebrate the Worcester Red Sox!

The kick-off celebration for the new Worcester Red Sox was held on Monday, September 17 at 5:00pm. The outdoor event attracted an estimated 1,500 to 2,000 to Worcester City Hall.

The team's boss Larry Lucchino was beaming as all of Worcester's VIPs and former Boston Red Sox stars Luis Tiant, Pedro Martinez and others adorned the stage.

Immediately following the ceremony, The Canal District Alliance held a Block Party from 6-10 p.m. with food, games and entertainment for the whole family as well as a fireworks display at 7:30 p.m.

The Worcester City Council gave final approval to the financing package last week -- considered one of the richest in minor league sports history.

A Night of Baseball!

Mercantile Center hit a home run in September!

On Monday, September 17, we were proud to host a reception before the Worcester Common's main event to welcome the Worcester Red Sox.

Two days later:
Inflatable games, free prize giveaways, and of course, BASEBALL!

A special thanks to everyone who came out in the cold and enjoyed some free food, beer and fun! It was an unfortunate loss for Boston fans, but nobody let that get in the way of having a great time!

The Sox continue into October, #1 in the AL East.

Tenant Happy Hour!

On Wednesday, September 26 tenants of Mercantile Center gathered on the Plaza to enjoy live music, free drinks, hors d'oeuvres and free prize giveaways! A few lucky tenants each won a $100 cash gift card, while a total of $500 in prizes were given away! Here's a look at the fun:

During September, Webster Five held their 150th anniversary 'Difference Makers' awards celebration at Mercantile Center, featuring entertainment, giveaways and food! Each 'Difference Maker' was announced and presented their award, and a Webster Five employee 'difference maker' was also recognized for their dedication to the customers and the community.

ABOUT: Hands-Only CPR or Bystander CPR, it is CPR without mouth-to-mouth breaths. It is recommended for use by people who see a teen or adult suddenly collapse in an “out-of-hospital” setting (such as at home, at work or in a park). It consists of two easy steps: Call 9-1-1 (or send someone to do that). Push hard and fast in the center of the chest. Communities with high rates of Bystander CPR have higher survival rates and it takes less than 15 minutes to lean.

Fun Facts!

World Smile Day - Friday, October 5, 2018.

First started in 1999 by the creator of the smiley, Harvey Ball, the holiday celebrates the intent behind the now universally recognized icon - to bring a smile of the faces of people around the world. The purpose of the holiday was the move away from the commercialization of the smiley and to use it as a symbol of kindness and affection.
A day that encourages people to smile! Here's how you can celebrate:

- Make people around you smile.

- Do a random act of kindness. Buy a stranger a coffee.
Compliment someone. Give your seat up to
  someone on the bus.

- Surprise someone in your family with a visit, cook a meal for them, or do
  something special for them.

- Volunteer your time and/ or money at a local nonprofit organization.
Spend some time in the kitchen whipping up some delicious desserts to share with your friends, family and co-workers.
