United Way Women's Initiative

The United Way of Central Massachusetts’s Women’s Initiative held a successful 2nd Annual Power of the Purse event on June 11th at Mercantile Center in Worcester.

Honorary co-chairs Nancy Crimmin, President of Becker College, and Mary Lou Retelle, President of Anna Maria College, hosted a fun evening of camaraderie and exciting purse auction bidding.

More than 120 women leaders attended representing local businesses, higher education, and non-profit organizations. 20 local businesses helped sponsor the event, including The Hanover Insurance Group as the Signature Sponsor. With their support, the event raised critical funds for violence prevention programming and financial literacy education for adolescent girls in Central Massachusetts.

Habitat for Humanity Build-A-Thon!

Last Friday, multiple sponsors of the Habitat For Humanity Operation Playhouse came together at Mercantile Center’s Outdoor Plaza to build their own playhouse - each of which was donated to a veteran family at the end of the day.
Mercantile Center is a proud sponsor of the 2019 Worcester Build-A-Thon, and we are happy to announce that we'll be doing so again during another Build-A-Thon in a few weeks on July 12!
The playhouse built will provide a special place for families to bond, play, dream, and think! In a single day, teams of 8 - 12 build, decorate, and donate playhouses to veteran or military parents with children, and come together in a special ceremony at the conclusion of the event.

Mark your calendars for these new and upcoming exciting events at Mercantile Center!

Tenant News

On June 11, the American Red Cross launched the Missing Types campaign to raise awareness about the unmet need for blood and how donors can help save lives. The goal of the Missing Types campaign is to inspire new and former blood donors to give this summer and become regular blood donors for patients in need in the years to come. The need for blood is constant.

Only about 3 out of 100 people in the U.S. give blood. There simply aren’t enough people donating blood to help patients in need. Yet, each day kids battling cancer, accident victims being raced into emergency rooms, and new moms with complicated childbirths need lifesaving blood transfusions.

To ensure that lifesaving blood products are available when and where they are needed, the Red Cross urges more individuals to roll up a sleeve and give.

Remember, July is...

There could not be a more fun National Awareness Month than Ice Cream during July!

As the summer reaches peak temperatures in July, Americans celebrate National Ice Cream Month as a way to cool off and enjoy the nation’s favorite frozen treat with friends and family. Ice cream has historically been a key feature of American communities.

According to an IDFA survey, most ice cream companies are family owned and have been in operation for more than 50 years! Here’s more sweet news: Ice cream companies help support the U.S. economy, contributing more than $39.0 billion to the national economy and creating more than 188,000 jobs in communities across the country.

From all of us at Mercantile Center, we hope you and your loved ones enjoy the Holiday, stay safe, and eat some ice cream!
