20th Annual Drive for a Difference Charity Auction and Golf Classic

Now in its 20th year, the Reliant Foundation’s Drive for a Difference BIG Event Live Auction Gala and Golf Classic has raised more than $5 million to support critical public health issues such as the opioid epidemic, children’s mental health, and childhood obesity across the Central and Metro West regions of Massachusetts.

The evening, hosted this year at the brand new AC Marriott Hotel in downtown Worcester, featured an exciting selection of super-silent auction items followed by the entertaining and engaging auctioneer Paul Zekos as he presented the live auction portion of the night. The proceeds of this event support charitable grants to 501(c)3 non-profit organizations with programs and projects aligned with the Foundation’s mission and focus.

128 golfers took to the course for the nearly sold-out Golf Classic at Pleasant Valley Country Club, a former tournament stop for the men’s and women’s professional golf tours.

ABOUT: Hands-Only CPR or Bystander CPR, it is CPR without mouth-to-mouth breaths. It is recommended for use by people who see a teen or adult suddenly collapse in an “out-of-hospital” setting (such as at home, at work or in a park). It consists of two easy steps: Call 9-1-1 (or send someone to do that). Push hard and fast in the center of the chest. Communities with high rates of Bystander CPR have higher survival rates and it takes less than 15 minutes to lean.

The Power in Women’s Purses
June 12 Power of the Purse event will fund programs to empower young girls

Women’s purses carry more than half of the private wealth in the United States. And today, more and more women are using their wealth and influence to create better communities across the nation.
Here in Central Massachusetts, the 1,000 members of Women’s Initiative—a program of the United Way of Central Massachusetts—are helping push this wave of transformative change, supporting programs designed to empower and help keep young girls safe.
On Tuesday, June 12, the Women’s Initiative will hold its first ever Power of the Purse fund-raising event, a fun night of camaraderie with an important purpose—to fund programs that reduce violence against young girls and women.
Honorary co-chairs for this event are Massachusetts Senate President Harriette Chandler, and Rep. Hannah Kane (11th Worcester District).
Putting the Power of the Purse to work
The Power of the Purse will feature a silent auction of beautiful designer purses. Every dollar raised will help fund Women’s Initiative programs aimed at ending violence against girls and promoting women’s leadership in Central Massachusetts and beyond.
Power of the Purse tickets available online
The Power of the Purse will take place Tuesday, June 12, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m., at Mercantile Center, 100 Front Street Worcester. In addition to the silent fund-raising auction, the Power of the Purse will feature live entertainment, hors d’oeuvres, and a cash bar. Tickets ($50) for Power of the Purse are available on the United Way of Central Massachusetts website.
You can also support the Women’s Initiative Power of the Purse event by donating a new purse, or by purchasing a sponsorship in this exciting event.
