After a record-breaking period of radio silence, I'm perhaps setting another record for shortest break between emails to let you know that I'm launching streaming shows this month on my website.
Here's the schedule:
Venues in New York have been adopting the live-streaming without audience model to keep musicians working, of whom the Village Vanguard and The Jazz Gallery have been two of the pioneering leaders in terms of audio-visual quality and overall experience.
Live-streaming presents some not insignificant challenges, not least of which are real-time audio mixing, coordinating video if multi-camera, and having necessary internet bandwidth for high-resolution video. From my DIY perspective, the next best thing is to offer relatively high quality audio and visual mixed and edited beforehand, then streamed in real time, hence this streaming live series.
For now, shows are going to be paywalled for 3 USD; both shows each weekend will be the same, so if you buy a cover for Friday night, you'll be able to re-watch on Saturday at the same time (8:00 PM). This is all still a work from progress, but I think it's definitely a step up from most phone-streamed Instagram/Facebook live-type programming. At the very least, I know the musicians are top notch and working on some challenging, cutting edge music, which I hope you'll enjoy.
More info is on my website, and we're looking forward to starting the proceedings with a double-bill of trios led by myself and pianist Christian Li for this weekend. I welcome any and all feedback as well; please reach out to me anytime.
Thanks again for reading and listening. Be well and I'll be in touch again sometime in the near to distant future.
