Welcome to the City of Kalamunda Library Services Birak e-newsletter

Noongar season

Birak (December - January) - the season of the young. Birak is the fire season, and traditionally the burning season for the Noongar people who would burn the country in mosaic patterns. This had several outcomes including the reduction of fuel and the promotion of seed germination. 

December and January Opening Hours

Please note the following change of hours for our Libraries during December / January period:
  • Friday 17th December - All libraries CLOSE at noon
  • Friday 24th December - All libraries CLOSE at 2pm
  • Saturday 25th - Tuesday 28th December inclusive - All libraries CLOSED
  • Wednesday 29th - Friday 31st December inclusive:
    • Kalamunda and Forrestfield Libraries open 9am - 5pm
    • High Wycombe and Lesmurdie Libraries CLOSED
  • 1st - 3rd January inclusive - All libraries CLOSED
  • 26th January - All libraries CLOSED

An evening of Summertime Song and interesting tales from the world of opera with soprano Pia Adriana Harris and Terasa Letizia, Education Manager with West Australian Opera.

Summer Reading Quest
Date: December 18th 2021 - January 29th 2022 

Location: All libraries

Epic Adventures await your child this summer!

Fight the reading slump that can occur over the school break. Visit your local library and join the new Summer Reading Quest from December 18th 2021.

School age children can log their reading hours and complete some Adventures during the Summer holiday. Follow us on Facebook for updates, visit our website or contact your local Library.
