Taiwan Village Concert
On October 18, we held a special fundraising concert at San Jose State University, where students got to show off the Chinese drumming techniques that they learned during summer camp in Taiwan. Galen arranged a new piece, “The Story of a Taiwan Village,” especially for this concert. We invited Marimba One guest artist Matthew Coley to play alongside our CPE group students for the concert. “Taiwan Village” was a colorful, dazzling show that impressed all the audience members.

Matthew Coley Marimba Workshop
On the day of the Taiwan Village concert, Matthew Coley held a marimba workshop for our CPE students. Five students got to perform their solo pieces for Matthew and receive feedback on their technique. His advice was much appreciated.
Marimba One Workshop
Ron and Brian came all the way down from Arcata on December 6th to teach us about marimbas. Those that attended the workshop learned a lot about how marimbas are made, which ones sound the best, and how to purchase the most appropriate marimba for our students.
Annual Holiday Concert
Our holiday concert this year was a benefit concert for Parents Helping Parents on December 20 at San Jose State University. Our students performed alongside SJSU percussion students in classic pieces such as "The 12 Days of Christmas" and "Away in the Manger." The SJSU Chorale joined us for "Hallelujah Chorus," and Latin percussionist Willie Garza performed conga solos for "Carol of the Cowbell." The incredible variety of performances and special guests ensured that every audience member left the concert hall in high spirits for the holidays.
New teacher: Chelsea Mohr
This semester, we are welcoming Chelsea Mohr to our teaching staff! Chelsea teaches the Family Time program, and will also be the new teacher’s assistant for YC1 and several percussion classes.
CAPMT Ensemble Competition
Congratulations to chamber group members Bowen Hu, Evander Limqueco, Kyle Yuen, and George Cai for being selected as winners for the California Association of Professional Music Teachers Honors Competition Ensemble Audition. This was their first time competing and they achieved full points. They will be performing on January 30th in San Jose.
Junior Bach Festival
All of our chamber groups will be auditioning for the Junior Bach competition on January 23-24, 2016. The groups have been working really hard, so we are confident that they will do well. Come out to support them if you can!
