First of all, I would like to thank the Lord for providing me with a traveling companion for this trip. Marilyn Moe and I left the US on August 31st and returned home on September 17th.
Having a traveling companion opened up a lot more opportunities for me to do some tourist activities on weekends and of course, made the traveling more enjoyable.

In Germany, I took part in the Conference at Holzhausen of Area Linguistics Coordinators. I gave a report on Dictionary & Lexicography Services (DLS) to Coordinators from every part of the world.
Giving the report - DLS has published 86 dictionaries from 33 countries on We have also facilitated 18 Rapid Word Collection workshops in 10 different countries.
On the weekend, a missionary friend from more than 40 years ago picked us up and took us to several tourist attractions. Thank you, Jeannie.
We toured the Burg Eltz  castle in Wierschem, Germany.
We had the privilege of taking a riverboat cruise on the Rhine river.

Tbilisi, Georgia

From Germany, we flew to Tbilisi, Georgia where I attended EuraLex 2016.The EURALEX Congress brought together professional lexicographers, publishers, researchers, software developers and others interested in dictionaries of all types. There were 150 participants from 40 countries. I learned a lot and connected with a lot of different people.
During the opening ceremony, our Georgian hosts treated us to traditional singing and dancing, complete with traditional costumes.
Georgians are very proud of their Christian history. They converted to Christianity in the 4th century. Our hosts took us to a church built in the 4th century.
One of their traditional foods is to boil grape juice until it becomes jelly, then dip walnuts on a string into the jelly. What a healthy and tasteful snack.
On the last day of the conference, I met with the Conference chairperson. I introduced myself and the Services DLS provides. She very enthusiastically invited me to return to EuraLex in 2018 and do a presentation.

Istanbul, Turkey

From Georgia, we flew to Turkey, where I was one of the instructors at the Consultant Development for Language Development workshop for the Eurasia area of Wycliffe Bible Translators and SIL language workers.
I taught about bi-lingual dictionary compiling and publishing. Most of the participants work in sensitive areas like Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkey and Iraq, so no one wanted their picture taken.
Tevfik was the local host for the workshop. He was a Christian who had grown up as a Muslim. During devotions one morning, he gave his testimony. He is the only Christian in his hometown. His story was very moving. Details coming next month...
We had the opportunity to enter the Blue Mosque during a service. In the mosque, we had to cover our heads and remove our shoes. Once we were inside, as women we had to stay in the back behind the barrier.
We also toured the Hagia Sophia. It was built as a church in the 5th century, was turned into a mosque in the 15th century when Turkey converted to Islam, and became a museum in the last century.
Next month, we will highlight the changes to
Robert's work and ministry.

Thank you for your friendship, your prayers, and your financial support. Without you on our team, we would not be able to do the work Father God has called us to. We pray for you daily. May Father God continue to prosper you and keep you in health and may all your prayers be answered.
