Robert has begun learning Old Testament Hebrew in order to be effective in editing the Exegetical Summary series for the Old Testament. Currently, he is editing the lectionary readings in chapter one of the book of Jeremiah.
On August 17th, we were invited to a Celebration of the Completion of the Exegetical Summary Series of the New Testament at the International Linguistics Center in Dallas. There are 34 books in total, authored by 13 different authors over a period of 32 years. Robert received a Certificate of Appreciation for his contribution.
In 1980, Richard Blight and his wife, Faith (pictured) moved to Dallas from the field and began the series. Richard developed the format and in 1986, 1 and 2 Thessalonians were ready to be published. It was a blessing of the Lord that they lived to see the completion of their dream. Both are well into their 90's by now.
SIL International Coordinator Meetings
Most of my meetings with my colleagues are held in a virtual conference room like Zoom, Google Hangouts or Skype. However, once a year all the SIL Coordinators from around the world get together in Dallas for a retreat and a few days of meetings.
We listened to reports from around the world, celebrated milestones, set goals for the coming year and shared with each other in a variety of ways. We also spent time in prayer, praise and worshiping our Heavenly Father.
I participated in a panel discussion sharing what our departments have accomplished. Dictionary & Lexicography Services has continued to assist in the compilation and publishing of minority language bilingual dictionaries.
From the field
When Robert and I first went to Papua New Guinea in January 1984, we attended the dedication of the first translation of the New Testament into Binumerian. We had only been in the country for 3 weeks and everything was very scary and amazing to us. I still remember that day like it was yesterday.
Thank you for your friendship, your prayers, and your financial support. Without you on our team, we would not be able to do the work Father God has called us to. We pray for you daily. May Father God continue to prosper you and keep you in health. May all your prayers be answered. Please drop us a line with your prayer needs, so we can pray more knowledgeably for you.
