World Premiere of The Long Alchemy of Becoming

Spend an evening with the Arizona State University scientists and filmmakers behind a new movie featuring a magical oasis in the Chihuahuan desert. This short film brings together original poetry, music and cinematography to tell the story of the universe as seen at the intersection of the past and the future. The story unfolds at a cluster of unique and diverse aquatic ecosystems in Cuatro Ciénegas, Mexico.

Hosted by noted ASU cosmologist Dr. Paul Davies, the event will examine the origins of chemical elements, the origin of life, the Cambrian explosion, and the ongoing mega-extinction at the dawn of the Anthropocene,  as well as the fate of the universe.

Join us to explore the cosmos and interact with the scientists, artists and communicators behind the film including biologist James Elser (ASU Regents' Professor and Distinguished Sustainability Scientist), ecologist Jorge Ramos (ASU PhD candidate), cinematographer and editor Samantha Davis (ASU alumna), and ASU science communicators Sandra Leander and Samantha Lloyd.
