Foundation Degrees at The Learning Institute

Who are The Learning Institute and where are we based?
The Learning Institute is an education provider with courses which are run at venues in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, South Gloucestershire, Bristol and London.

We offer a range of education and mental health based undergraduate and masters degree courses, initial teacher training, apprenticeships and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes.
Our Ethos

The Learning Institute provides opportunities for individuals and communities through high quality education, training and research programmes that challenge personal barriers and promote social inclusion.

We believe learning should be informed by research, guided by ethics and committed to communities.

It should:
  • offer the freedom to make empowering choices
  • remove barriers, to allow the freedom to make those choices
  • create the desire and expectation that the choices made will lead to positive change.
What We Offer - Foundation Degrees
At The Learning Institute, we currently offer four full-time Foundation Degrees relating to education, health and children's services, consisting of academic study integrated with relevant work-based learning. These Foundation Degrees are accredited by the University of Worcester.

Foundation degrees at The Learning Institute (September 2021 start):
How are we different to other providers?
Our degrees are delivered using a blended learning approach, which combines face-to-face learning, interactive live online learning, tutorials, independent study and work-based learning or critical engagement workshops. We treat all learners as individuals and provide a nurturing environment with dedicated tutors and support for our students, trainees and apprentices. Our courses are run locally, and are designed to fit around work and family life.
A breakdown of our course delivery structure
Key Features of our Foundation Degrees
Weekly learning sessions (one day per week, 1.00pm. - 7.30pm.) with a combination of face-to-face and live online  delivery,  enabling  you  to balance  study,  work  and  home demands.  This day will  remain the same for  both years of  the Foundation Degrees.

Learning through tutor-led delivery, discussion, small group activities and individual learning. Local  delivery to  groups  made up  of  students  across  a  small number  of  interrelated  courses, enriching your study experience.

Work-based learning providing you with a key opportunity to connect your academic and professional learning.

In a typical week you will have around 6-8 hours of planned learning sessions, either face-to-face or online.

Student support is available both through The Learning  Institute and the University of Worcester, helping you to make the most of your life as a student and achieve your potential in your academic studies.
