Notes from the President - Jennifer Ott

As the year draws to a close, I reminisce on the riding season of 2022. I rode nearly 28,000 miles and picked up two new BMW motorcycles: a 2022 BMW G310GS for adventure rides with the TCD, and a 2022 BMW R9T Urban GS. Marc and I attended three BMW MOA Getaways (Fontana Dam NC, Guelph Ontario and Sugarbush Vermont). We rode to the National BMW MOA Rally in Springfield, Missouri and had the pleasure of being there with over 40 TCD members. The TCD was the second highest for attendance at the rally. From there, Marc and I rode to Colorado and rode with our BMW Club of Ontario. Highlights were Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes, Durango, Ouray, Silverton, Colorado Monument, Million Dollar Highway, Independence Pass and Aspen/Snowmass.

In the fall, we traveled to Maine up the coast and visited Acadia National Park before meeting up with Dave Allgood and Pat O'Neill in Lincoln, NH and following the amazing routes Pat planned for us through epic notches, twisties and the Kancamagus Highway. From there we explored Vermont's twisty roads and a two-track route up Rochester Gap that proved a challenge for two R1200RT before turning around and finding another route!

We are looking forward to repeating last year's getaways, the National in Richmond, VA, and a motorcycle trip Marc and I planned to Ireland in May that somehow led to 9 more riders joining us, including 7 TCD members. We go in May, and it will be a 14-day motorcycle trip on BMW motorcycles up the Wild Atlantic Way, renting through celticrider.ie. Only two more months or so before we can start riding again! With that thought in mind, I wish everyone a healthy, joyous and exciting New Year!

TCD Awards Banquet is Feb. 11th
An email was sent to all members in good standing on Dec. 22nd inviting them to make their reservations and payment for the TCD Awards Banquet, to be held February 11th at Zerbo's Bistro in Commerce Township. If you are a Paid or Lifetime Member and did not receive the email or need the reservation form, download it here.

Bylaws Committee Results
The Bylaws Committee completed their review and submitted recommended changes to the Club Officers. The Officers concurred with each recommended change. A voting ballot will be distributed to all club members in good standing in January. Please watch for a Bylaws Vote newsletter and ballot in the coming weeks.

Sunday Breakfast Schedule Revised
We have made a change to the rotation schedule for Club Breakfasts. The "Every 3rd Sunday" breakfast moves to Scramblers. The site for the "Every 4th Sunday" breakfast will change to Greek Jalapeno in Walled Lake. Greek Jalapeno was a past club favorite, and it becomes our regular "4th Sunday of the Month" restaurant, beginning January 29th. The "Every 5th Sunday" will be Zoe's, in those months with five Sundays.

The new Monthly Breakfast Schedule is:

Every 1st Sunday - George Senate Coney Island in Northville
Every 2nd Sunday - Americus Coney & Grill in Milford
Every 3rd Sunday - Scramblers in Farmington Hills
Every 4th Sunday - Greek Jalapeno in Walled Lake
Every 5th Sunday - Zoe's House of Pancakes in Royal Oak

The Breakfast Schedule is included in the Updates & Events section at the end of each monthly newsletter. Bear in mind that the Club may deviate from the above schedule to better facilitate a ride during the season. All updates will be posted on the website.

Anytime is a Good Time to Renew Your Membership
You don’t need to wait until your membership expires before renewing to ensure you get maximum value. Anytime you renew, the system extends your membership to one year from your current expiration date. As an example, if your membership was to expire on March 20, 2023, you can renew any time before March 20th and the system will still set your new membership expiration to March 20, 2024.

You never lose membership value by renewing early, but you may miss out on something if allowing for your membership to lapse before renewing. The membership system will send you a reminder that your membership is expiring 10 days before the expiration date, and a 2nd reminder on your expiration date. Your membership expiration date is at the bottom of this and every club newsletter you receive and can also be viewed on this website by going to MEMBERS, then JOIN OR RENEW and clicking the link at the bottom.

TCD Contest Winners Correction
Although the Mileage Contest was simply to see who motorcycled the most miles by November 30, 2022, participants had until Dec. 31st to submit their odometer readings, after the Nov./Dec. Newsletter was published. Below are the corrected and final standings for the contest:

1st Place: Jennifer Ott - 27,297 Miles
2nd Place: Doug Radtke - 22,436 Miles
3rd Place: Marc Neville - 19,178 Miles

Congratulations to all who won, placed and showed in our 2022 TCD Contests. Recognition will be awarded at the TCD Awards Banquet on February 11th.

TCD Nite - 2nd Tuesday of each Month
Join your fellow TCD members for an evening of comradery and dining every 2nd Tuesday of the month.

January's TCD Nite will be on the 10th at Craft Breww City, 27843 Orchard Lake Road, which is the shopping plaza at 12 Mile & Orchard Lake. Gather at 6:30 pm and discuss all the farkles Santa Claus brought.
