Update & Events

Hello TCD Members,

It's already mid June and the TCD events are flying by. May started off with the Mini Rally in Sturgis, MI where the Touring Club of Detroit had the most club members in attendance.

The Williamston ride and cookout was a huge hit, as was the Southern Indiana Dirt ride. Two dealership open houses and the Pennington’s BBQ top off the list. We also had a couple of great dirt rides with mishaps and misadventures along the way, but always a good time.

I sure hope everyone was able to make it at least one of those events. If not, here's a list of the upcoming ones.

Upcoming Events Schedule:
( See forum for details)

June 19-21: TCD Longest Day Ride
July 10-12: AMA Vintage Days
July 11th: BMW SE MI Saturday Ride
July 23-25: MOA Rally Billings, MT
July 26: 37th Annual Concours d'Elegance
August 8th: Detroit Urban Cross
August 16th: Ice Cream Ride

Longest Day Ride June 19th-21st (see forum post):

As a group we will be camping at Cycle-Moore campground near Interlochen (rain or shine). If you prefer hotel/motels there are some accommodations near Interlochen and down the road at Platte River. We will use the campground as a meeting place and usually do breakfast at Dilberts which is next to it.

Things that are going on:

Dirt Riders: Greg Crago is once again leading a group on a "treacherous" off-road journey up to Interlochen on Friday. Plan to meet at Uncle Johns Cider Mill at 9am for breakfast. He will be posting up details on the forum shortly. It's B.O.B (butts on bike) at 10am, so it's best to be there by 9:30am.

Greg is also organizing big bike off-road rides on Saturday and Sunday. Although these are "big bike" rides, they are really big bikes on small bike trails. Be prepared for some technical challenges and I highly recommended having knobby tires (like TKC's) on your bike for the most enjoyable and best experience.

All riding levels are welcome, this is a great way to get some big bike off-road experience. Just have some expectations that the bikes will eventually go horizontal, which provide an opportunity to practice proper form for picking up the bikes.

Light Houses: I believe Jeff S. and Mark B. are going to hit a couple off of their MSTA list on Saturday. I'm sure they would welcome some company.

Shopping: Lots of shopping near the Leelanau.

Street Riding: Also lots of street riding in almost any direction from Interlochen.

If you are not sure what to expect, then just show up and expect to have a good time!
