Riding Season Is Here!

We've had fantastic rides the past two weekends to kick off our year and May is packed with so many activities it will be hard to fit them all in. That's what we're going for - lot's of rides!

Two weeks ago (a week later than originally planned due to the freezing rain and snow), we held the ADV ride down to the Maumee State Forest APV area in Swanson, OH.  The group met at the Harvest Moon Cafe in Ypsi for some breakfast, then took off for the trails.  The sand is always a challenge, and we had our share of those christening their bikes with dirt baths, but it was a fun ride.

Last weekend, we held the Annual TCD Urban Cross.  After a fantastic breakfast in Mexicantown, the route took us under the Ambassador Bridge, to Michigan Central Railway Terminal, down the waterfront behind Joe Louis and the RenCen, to the Dossin Museum on Belle Isle, a fly-by of the Manoogian Mansion (mayor's residence), Indian Village, the Packard Plant, and then to Hamtramck.  Everyone made it through with grins on their faces.

Coming up this weekend, we have the Mini-Rally in Denton, MI May 4-6th and the All Clubs Ride in Stockbridge on May 6th.  The best plan is to camp on Saturday night and hit Stockbridge on the way home.

On Tuesday the 8th, our 'TCD Tuesdays' returns with a trip to Ypsilanti Bike Night in Depot Town.  A long-standing but informal tradition for many club members.  Come on out and check it out.  Grab dinner, or an ice-cream and check out the bikes.

For the dirt-road inclined, come out for some fun on the northern Oakland County gravel roads on Saturday, May 12th.  Meet for breakfast in Clarkston, and hit the back roads for a couple of hours to put that I-don't-just -ride-to-Starbucks sheen of dirt and mud on your bike.

BMW Motorcycles of Southeast Michigan has a pair of events for us.  First is their annual spring Open House on Saturday, May 19th.  This is their don't miss it event of the year.  Food, live music, and lots of good deals.  Next up, is the spring track day at Grattan Raceway in Belding, MI on Monday, May 21st.  If you have never done a track day, talk to them at BMW SEM - it's a great way to build skills.  They have lots of classes for novice riders which are a combination of on-track and off-track coaching.

Finally, the TCD Road and Trail ride will be held out of Zanesville, OH, May 24-27th.  We moved the base of operations to Zanesville (from Athens), due to better proximity to both on-road and off-road options.  There is a scouting party going down to work on the routes May 8-11.  If you're open mid-week and want to join, there are details in the TCD forum.  After the scouting crew gets back, we will have the hotel detail, routes, and further info.

Hope to see you soon!

This cast of characters, seemed to enjoy the stop on Belle Isle.   The rest room was nearby.
Everyone behaved themselves at the train station, but the guards might have done some yelling at the Packard Plant.  ;)
