2018: our 150th year

This year we celebrate our 150th anniversary. There are a number of events throughout the year to celebrate our foundation as New Zealand's oldest rugby club. Please keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for events and their dates.

Kia ora

We are very pleased to welcome you to the start of the NRFC 150th anniversary of the establishment of our club. It’s an exciting time for the club as we continue to grow and adapt in a time of many changes and we’ll continue to fulfil our obligations as stewards of our national game.

The planned celebrations will also provide an opportunity for our people to reconnect and promote the relationships that have held us in good stead over these many years.

Please look to our 150 communication notices that will begin to be coming out shortly from Kerry Barton and Jane Goodman for information and events. Kerry Strange is heading up our 150 th Committee with help from Jeff Rackley.

All in all a good team and start for the year, can I also take a moment to thank Vikki Amberger who has moved on after 4 years and welcome Sam Burling in to the Sec/ Co- Snr Club Captain roles.

Regards Shane Graham
President NRFC

Introducing Sam Burling

I feel overwhelmed with the welcome to the NRFC that I have had so thank you all for your support.

Keeping this bio short I am a mum of 2 - JJ (6) & Maia (7) - and if that doesn't keep me busy enough I also work full time at Summit as a Property Manager. As most of you that do know me I have come over from Marist where my role was Senior Club Captain.

Working with Shane (Gunner) on various projects such as Wingman and NBMR over the years made the decision easy and I look forward to many more years working with the NRFC.

I wish you all the best for the season ahead GOOD LUCK to all grades #taptap.

Game day

Tasman 10s

We have entered a team in the Tasman 10s, this year hosted by Taperwera on the 24th March. There will be trophies up for grabs, a hangi/bbq & kids area.

Senior A

The seniors kick off their year with a preseason game against Central at Neale Park, 7th April at 3pm. The fist round of the competition is on the 14th April against Wanders at Neale Park.

Senior coach Kade Heke, when asked how the boys will go this season, said that player recruitment and depth was going to be an issue for them and the other clubs in the region but "the boys will give it everything and are committed to making the 150th year as successful as possible."

Senior B

A team has been entered into the Senior B competition but, as with the As, player recruitment and depth will be an ongoing issue.

The draw has not been completed for the Bs competition but the team has a confirmed preseason game on the 24th April.

Coach, Grant Crossett is looking for some help managing the team so if you can help out please contact Grant 027 2566 230.

Junior Registration

Junior Registration was very successful with 140 players registering on the day. The new style training tee, featuring the 150th logo was very popular, and the boot bags and drink bottles, donated by MacDonalds, were given to the first 100 players to register. A big thank you to Anna & Tony Perkins for their support.

Quentin plans to run 2 more gear sessions, where sox, shorts and tees will be on sale, on the 31st April and on the morning of the first game (5th May).

If you were unable to make registration day but would like to register your children to play please contact Quentin 03 5470313.

School holiday training day 27th April

Quentin is organising a school holiday training day for the junior players. Senior players and skills coaches will run the training sessions and, based on the feedback from previous years, the kids have a great time and learn lots.

Welfare Report - Stephen Garguilo

Bereavement cards were sent to Shane Grieve ( mother), the family of Don Spence ( past player),and the family of Keith Wright (past player).

I have visited Murray West and sent a card to Ross Della Bosca and Judy Wadsworth. On a positive note, Amanda Day (our chef extraordinaire) got married to Ben recently and flowers were sent from the club.

Images and memories

To celebrate our 150th we are keen to shine a light on the club's history and people and will be posting images and stories to Facebook.

If you have any images or memories of the club's history that you would like to share we would love to have them.

You can send them to Jane Goodman at
