Nandhakumar Receives 2018 CTA Technology Leadership Award

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 27, 2018 – The Consumer Technology Association (CTA™) has honored LG Electronics for leadership in innovation. CTA bestowed the 2018 CTA Technology Leadership Award upon Dr. Nandhu Nandhakumar, LG Senior Vice President in the Office of the CTO, in recognition of his significant long-term industry contributions as Chairman of the CTA Technology Council.
CTA’s Technology & Standards highest honor, the Technology Leadership Award, recognizes individuals whose long-term significant contributions advance the state-of-the-art in consumer technology. LG said this recognition reflects the company’s management culture that emphasizes technology excellence, industry advancement and responsible corporate citizenship.
According to Brian Markwalter, CTA’s Senior Vice President of Technology and Standards, Dr. Nandhakumar has helped to identify key thought leadership platforms for consideration in areas including autonomous and advanced driver-assistance systems, active aging, security, privacy and artificial intelligence. “His contributions are extremely valuable in helping to ensure that the CTA Technology Council meets its mission to assess the needs of the industry, driven by the ever-changing technology landscape and develop actionable guidance on work plans and projects,” said Markwalter.
At LG, Dr. Nandhakumar leads strategic technology projects in the areas of next- generation media and displays, smart cities & communities, and robotics, and in recent years, he also led strategic technology initiatives, partnerships and corporate investments across a broad portfolio of emerging technologies, such as connected entertainment, health, energy and vehicles.
Previously, he served as Chief Technology Officer, Vice President of Engineering, and a member of the Board of Directors at Triveni Digital. He has also served on the faculties of the University of Texas, Austin, and the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. He has authored more than a 100 journal and conference publications, and holds patents in these areas.
Dr. Nandhakumar earned his Master’s degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas, Austin. A senior member of the IEEE, he serves on the boards of directors and advisory committees of various industry organizations, start-ups, incubators, and academic institutions.
