2016 Annual Report

In 2016, 2030 WRG has helped set up 10 national multi-stakeholder platforms, 36 working groups collaborated on proposals, 505 active partners participated in steering boards and working groups and 14 programs are currently being implemented on the ground. Read or download here >>

The 2030 WRG launched the Maharashtra Cotton Water Platform to enhance and de-risk the livelihoods of over 500,000 cotton farmers by delivering coordinated solutions for sustainable agricultural practices and water security in the Marathwada and Vidharba regions of Maharashtra, India.
Governing Council meets in Davos & transitioning of 2030 WRG

The 2030 WRG Governing Council met in Davos, Switzerland during the World Economic Forum Annual Meetings. The members discussed 2016 results and prepared for the next strategic plan.
São Paulo first working group meetings

On March 20th the 2030 WRG organized the first working group meetings in São Paulo focusing on Water Demand Management, Reuse and Recycling; and Sustainable Financing of Water Infrastructure.
Innovative mechanism in Peru facilitates public-private partnerships

Works for Taxes (OxI), is an innovative mechanism created in 2009 in the Peruvian State that allows a company to invest directly in public infrastructure, charged to income tax that can be paid annually. Read more >>
Peru Steering Committee creates 6 new working groups

A Steering Committee Meeting held in January agreed to create 6 new working groups. Participants included the ministers of Environment, Social Inclusion, vice-minister of Sanitation, director of the National Water Agency, and many others. Read more >>
Sustainable Agri-water PPPs Initiative kick-off in Mexico

A kick-off meeting of the Sustainable Agri-water PPPs Initiative was held early February. The 2030 WRG supports the implementation of the initiative by providing high-level technical assistance with the help of PWC, in coordination with the IFC and World Bank offices in Mexico. Read more >>
Capital investment prioritization system project in Mexico concluded

The system will be used to prioritize CONAGUA´s main project portfolio in order to achieve strategic policy priorities established in the National Water Plan 2014-2018 and other policy instruments. Read more >>
CONAGUA and 2030 WRG launch Sustainable Agri-Water Initiative in Mexico

Consejo Consultivo del Agua (CCA), CONAGUA and 2030 WRG have launched the Sustainable Agri-water Initiative in Mexico. The agri-industry in Mexico uses about 70% of its freshwater and could be used more efficiently. Read more >>
Creating a water-smart future with Kenyan partners

Following a commitment from 23 private-public-civil society partners to collectively address water-related risks to industrial growth, the Kenya Industrial Water Alliance (KIWA) in September was launched. Read more >>

Kenya Partnership global launch at 3GF

Eugene Wamalwa, Cabinet Secretary to the Kenya Ministry of Water and Irrigation, and Vimal Shah, CEO of Bidco Africa jointly announced the launch of the Kenya 2030 WRG Partnership at the Global Green Growth Forum (3GF) Summit in Denmark. Read more >>

The annual 2030 WRG Tanzania Partnership meeting, held last week, closed with calls for increased partnership and innovative financing to propel Tanzania’s water-smart future. Read more >>
PPIAF to provide financial and technical support to advance non-revenue water in South Africa through SWPN

US$350k PPIAF funds approved for development of a municipal non-revenue water program in South Africa. Read more >>
SWPN South Africa appoints new program manager

Water Governance and Institutional Reform in Bangladesh 

Given the increasing pressure on water resources, Bangladesh has welcomed the support of the 2030 WRG. A number of strategies to tackle initially the most pressing governance challenges have already been adopted. Read more >>
Collaboration to diffuse industrial water pollution in Ganga River Basin

An industry-workshop was organized last September in Uttar Pradesh by 2030 WRG, the Paper Manufacturer's Association and others. The meeting addressed wastewater challenges of the Hindon River as a demonstration case for the Ganga Basin tributary approach. Read more >>

The assessment will cover the overall water resources situation, including a high-level water demand-supply analysis and identify solutions required to optimize the use of water. Read more >>
Working on wastewater reuse in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

A Hydro-Economic Analysis to examine the water demand and supply in the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar has helped identify cost-effective water demand reduction solutions and water supply alternatives. Read more >>

Kenya Case Study
Through a series of process efficiency measures, including metering & controlling, leakage reparation, water reuse and improved wastewater treatment, the Kibos Sugar and Allied Industries factory (KSAI) in Kisumu, Kenya, reduced pollutant loads of its effluent discharge by 70%.

A PPP between South America’s largest gold mine, Yanacocha, the City of Cajamarca and the Cajamarca Water and Sewerage Company has significantly upgraded the city’s water supply infrastructure.
