Tim Hodge triumphs in tough Wellington XC Championships

Muddy and windy conditions at Grenada North Park meant Tim Hodge had to stay patient to defend his Wellington cross-country running title.  The Wellington Scottish runner sat with a group of four runners throughout the first six kilometres of the 10km long course championship event. But with a lap and a half to go of the four-lap race, he put in a surge which none of his rivals could match, getting a break of about 20 metres.  Wellington Harriers' Nathan Tse tried valiantly to stay with him, but was unable to close the 10-second gap between them, which Hodge maintained to the finish.  Read more

Alison Andrews-Paul is getting better and better.  At the U20 world champs in Bydgoszcz in Poland earlier this month she managed to win her 800m heat, before clocking 2:06.32 in the semi- final – a personal best time by half a second.
“I knew I was in PB form,” she said. “I was hoping to be in the final, but at the end of the day I did everything I could.”  Read more

Michael Jacques - the local behind so many of our big events in NZ
Michael Jacques doesn’t race as much as he’d like these days, but without him, many events in Wellington wouldn’t happen on such a scale.  Michael has been involved in endurance sports for almost 40 years, competing, reporting, organising and  coaching runners, cyclists, mountain bikers and multis porters.  "It’s what I enjoy. It’s always been my thing,” he said.  Read more
First Wellington Centre XC Title for Logan Slee
Logan Slee worked his way through the heavy going at Grenada North Park to capture his first Wellington club cross-country title.  The Hutt International Boys' School student won the under-18 five-kilometre race at the championships on Sunday in a time of 15 minutes, 35 seconds.  He finished 10 seconds clear of St Pat's Town runner Liam Chesney, with Onslow College's Seamus Kane third.  Read more
