It's that time of year when we're heading towards the end of the winter season and gearing up for the summer. Good luck to Tessa Hunt, Imogen Skelton and Stefan Przychodzko who are competing at the Australian Cross Country Champs on Saturday following their selection in the NZ Secondary Schools Cross Country team. And he's done it. Nick Willis showed his experience today to make the final of the 1500m at the Rio Olympics. Lock in 12am 21 August (our time) for the final. For the IAAF website click here. Wellington Road Champs Saturday 20 August in Wainuiomata
The Wellington Road Champs is being held out at Wainuiomata on Saturday wiht a new 2.5km loop instead of the former 2km loop - so less turns for the 10km race. Races for all club members from Under 9s, Under 11s, Under 13s, Under 15s, Under 18s, Under 20s, seniors and masters. Initial Wellington Team Selected for NZ Road Champs
The Athletics NZ Road Champs are being held in Masterton this year on Saturday 3 October. An initial Wellington Team has been selected. Click here for the full list. The online EOI form is open until this Sunday with further names to be added to the team after Saturday's racing. Any athlete who hasn't yet completed the online EOI form needs to do this by Sunday. NZ Road Champs open to all club members
The Athletics NZ Road Champs are open to all financial club members and it's just over the hill in Masterton. Any club member can take part - you don't need to be selected. Last Kids XC Series event next Sunday 28 August - Mt Victoria
Book by this Sunday to receive a personalised race bib on the day at www.athleticshub.co.nz/events Our last Kids Cross Country Series event is being held on Mt Victoria next Sunday 28 August hosted by WHAC. These events are open to everyone - you don't need to be a club member to take part. Labelled a mini mountain run and partially run on the Vosseler course, it's a completely different course to our previous events. At this event we'll be awarding medals and a Shoe Clinic drawstring bag to those who have taken part in all five races over the series. Overall team and individual series medals will also be presented at this event. For more details go to this link
Coaching Courses leading into the 2016/17 athletics season
COACHING COURSE DATES have been set for 2016. Summer clubs need a huge amount of volunteers to help run club nights. If you're at the club days anyway with your child, why not come along and find out more so you can help out at the same time Teenagers can play a role here too by volunteering at a club near them. The younger kids love teenagers. Our courses give you the skills to do help out with the club night activities - it doesn't matter if you've never participated or coached in athletics before. A whole range of courses are on offer from Get Set Go, Run Jump Throw. For more details click here
OUT NOW: 2016/17 Track and Field Calendar (Junior & Senior)
The Track and Field calendar includes dates for the junior interclubs (7 to 15 year olds), interclubs for college age, seniors and masters, regional meets and Athletics NZ and NZ Children's competitions. It also includes dates for our coaching courses and officials' courses.
Not long to go till the Pelorus Trust Run and Walk Event on Sunday 11 September. With a half marathon, 10km, 5km and Cool Kids Kilometre, there are distances for EVERYONE. Run by the Hutt Valley Marathon Clinic, it's a great chance to get out and support them at the same time. For further info go to hvmc.org.nz
Athletics Wellington is again partnering with Cigna and Sport Wellington to bring you the Cigna Kids Waterfront Fun Run. We have a new date and venue this year so mark in your diary the afternoon of Thursday 20 October at Waitangi Park. This is a Fun Run for year 0s up to year 8s and we're also offering a 5km event for college age and adults - parents you might want to give this a go. More details at this link And of course we're keen for all the help we can get from our clubs to run this event (including our teenage athletes again to help with the lead and tail end running) so if you're able to volunteer on the day please email email@example.com
