Shelter Valley, Singalong Soirée, and more!
Hello again friends,

The summer has been a bit of a whirlwind! Hence the relative lateness of this newsletter. But hopefully not too late to convince some of you to come out TOMORROW NIGHT for the Gathering Sparks Singalong Soirée at the Tranzac Club in Toronto. A great chance to unwind from the weekend and sing!

Jane and I had a fabulous time at the Mariposa Festival, where Gathering Sparks got to participate in a slew of fun workshops and concerts. After that I dashed off to Haliburton for a week of teaching ukulele, and then I hopped on a plane and taught ukulele teachers at the James Hill Ukulele Institute in Vancouver.

Coming up in a few days I'll be headed to The Woods Music and Dance Camp, then a Gathering Sparks songwriting retreat, and then Labour Day Weekend the wonderful Shelter Valley Folk Festival, one of the finest little festivals in Canada. And in September, Gathering Sparks heads to Nova Scotia -- details to come soon. I hope to see you along the way, but if not, stay well and keep singing!

A Few of My Favourite Things

Black Lives Matter
I believe strongly in the work of groups like Black Lives Matter. Here's a very moving and powerful story from one woman that illustrates why it is important for all of us-- and especially those of us who are white-- to care about these issues and speak up. It's a Facebook link but you don't have to be a Facebook member to look at it.

Last newsletter I posted a link to #WeAreOrlando which has been raising money to support all the survivors of the Orlando shooting. To date, they have raised about 7.5 million dollars. An incredible response of compassion to a terrible event. They are still collecting donations, so feel free to visit the donation page and contribute.

Bruce Molsky at Hugh's Room
And now for something completely different. The amazing Bruce Molsky is coming to Ontario as part of the staff of The Woods Music and Dance Camp. But before camp, he will be performing at Hugh's Room on Wednesday, July 27th. If you want to hear a master of old-time Appalachian traditions, you cannot miss this concert. Hope to see you there!
