Gathering Sparks Singalong Soiree

Singalong Soirée

Sunday May 24th, 7:30 pm
Tranzac Club

292 Brunswick Ave. (S. of Bloor)

Once again Gathering Sparks will be at the Tranzac Club to lead a mixture of our own singable songs along with some classic rock, folk, country, and pop songs. Come down and sing-along, or just listen.

And if you have some time that day, you might want to drop in early-- from 5 - 7 pm our friend Lynn Harrison will be singing there with Steve Paul Simms. So there's lots of great music to be had on Sunday, May 24.

Hope to see you there!
Jason LaPrade Dobro

My friend Jason LaPrade needs our help. Jason is one of Toronto's best sound technicians, and he is also a fine musician. Please donate to our campaign to help Jason get a new car, or repair the car he has. It's an urgent situation and he needs a reliable ride so he can visit his partner Rosemary Phelan in palliative care. We have had a tremendous response so far but we are not done yet! The more money we raise the more options Jason has, and there is still more than a week to go in the campaign. Please donate if you can, and share this campaign with your networks. Thank you!

Ukulele News - In Brief!

There is a lot of ukulele in my life right now, and I don't always highlight that in my newsletter. So here's the quick rundown on my upcoming ukulele activities. I am currently teaching two Parkdale Ukulele Group classes and I will be starting a beginning group in the fall-- get in touch if you are interested. On June 6 I will lead a uke workshop in Cobourg, ON, and one at the MERA Arts Fest on June 13 in McDonalds Corners, ON. In July I'll be on staff for the James Hill Ukulele Institutes in Toronto and Vancouver, leading a ukulele group at Blue Skies Festival, and teaching a week-long class at Haliburton School of the Arts. Uke On!

A Few of My Favourite Things
B.B. King
We lost a true legend with the passing of B.B. King. He was a huge influence on pretty much anyone who plays blues guitar or rock and roll guitar. Here's a wonderful interview with him that was part of the PBS series "American Roots Music."

Secretly I wish I was one of those hip musicians who wrote songs over "beats." But I know nothing about creating beats. Fortunately, I was recently introduced to typedrummer, which creates amazing drum loops out of whatever you type into the box.
