ITS TIME TO CHECK OUT THE OFFICIAL EVENTS FOR 2015
OPENING WEEKEND /
RETRO NIGHT
SATURDAY 04 JULY 2015

Grab your retro ski outfit and the fondue set and head to National Park for the second annual ‘Retro Night’ to celebrate the opening of Whakapapa, Turoa and the start of a new ski season.
This is a potluck dinner so put your hands up to supply curried sausages, lashings of mashed spuds, pigs in blankets, iceyslicey, or something else equally retro tasting.

Please let your event host know what you’re bringing along to ensure not too many double-ups.

CURRY NIGHT       SATURDAY 08 AUGUST 2015

Without doubt the ‘Hottest’ event on the calendar, the National Park Curry Night has been an annual event since around 2005. The format is a potluck dinner where everyone brings a curry of some description; preferably a large portion so people can try everything.

We encourage weird and wonderful curries, it is by no means limited to Indian or Thai curries, it could even be 'starters' or ‘nibbles'.

The club supplies the rice but bring a rice cooker if you can. As the kitchen can get very full we suggest you cook your curry beforehand and reheat prior to serving.

Book for this weekend early as it is an extremely popular event!

Any queries please contact the host for this event:
Dion Cruse – booking@skiclub.org.nz or 0274 784 863
Please advise early if you can bring along a rice cooker.
BERNIE’S BBQ BONANZA
SATURDAY 15 AUGUST

NATIONAL PARK

Named after our resident BBQ’er Bernie Prendergast, Bernie’s BBQ Bonanza is a potluck BBQ - some may say it’s like a box of chocolates, as you never quite know what you’re going to get!
Bring your meat, a salad or something similar and don’t forget a side of humor and laughter.

MID-WINTER CHRISTMAS  SATURDAY 29 AUGUST
RUAPEHU LODGE
Note: An event surcharge applies for this evening - cost $10 per person

TThe annual Midwinter Christmas Dinner and party is held in late August at the Mountain Lodge.

This is always a very popular event with a full house so avoid disappointment and get your bookings and payment in.

This event requires a lot of organising and preparation so if you would like volunteer to assist it would be greatly appreciated. On the day we will need people to help prepare and cook the food (meat, veges and desserts) & of course cleanup and do dishes.

ITALIAN NIGHT  SATURDAY 05 SEPTEMBER 2015
RUAPEHU LODGE
Italian night has become an annual event after starting during the school holidays in 2006 when there was no custodian at the top lodge.

A huge batch of pizza dough is made at the lodge in the morning and left proofing for the day before being rolled out and delicious toppings added.

All those attending will need to bring along toppings and chipin to produce the pizza masterpieces for the evening.

Please supply details of what you can bring to our hosts so we don’t get too many double ups.

Any queries please contact the host for this event:
Your host’s for this event will be Blair and Sue Sinclair along with Kevin Frost.

WHISKEY & CHAMPAGNE RACE
26 SEPTEMBER 2015
RUAPEHU LODGE
(coincides with school holidays)

Informal races were very much a feature of the club’s calendar in the past.
This year, as immediate past-president, Mac is keen to reintroduce this bit of craziness to the mountain lodge and to give it an alpine spin. The two races on the agenda so far are:

The Whiskey Race
This will start at our Ruapehu Lodge with racers making their way on foot to the top of the Far West T-bar.  Innovation is encouraged you could walk/ snowshoe/skin (but no chairlifts/skidoos/ helicopters please!) As each racer reaches the top of the T-bar the real fun starts; with the winner being the first back to the lodge.

The Champagne Race
This is simply a ski race from the top of the Far West T-bar down to the Ruapehu Lodge. Champagne racers will need to be assembled before the first of the Whiskey racers reaches the top of the T-bar as it will be his or her descent that triggers the start of the Champagne Race. Pick your own course down the mountain for a combined finish! (Prizes self explanatory).
