We take such pride in seeing the children we partner with grow up. It is always so powerful getting to hear their testimonies. These young adults (see above picture) are essentially OVCP's first born. One of the sweetest gifts we receive from them is their thankful hearts. When you hear them share their stories there are often three common points each one of them will say. They each are thankful for God's grace that carried them through hard times and they are thankful to everyone who has helped them reach where they are today. The other common area is how each of them tells their story; they share how they want to give back. Here are some quotes from some of OVCP's first partner children.

"I want them to see and know that girls are strong! That we can do great things. When I was young no one could believe that I could do anything. Now they are amazed!" --  Aisha, studying nursing and midwifery

"I want to become a doctor. I want to show the doctor who left me to suffer because I didn't have money that what he did was wrong and that doctors should act with compassion." Emma, high school student

"Even now when I look at myself, I can't believe that I am the same one whose skin used to be scarred and that rats would actually eat my skin. I am thankful for God's grace that kept me and protected me." Francis, a teacher at OVCP primary school

Each Newsletter we are going to start featuring one of the amazing people we get to partner with. We want you to see and hear the impact partnership makes!
This January, along with OVCP's first born, we had hundreds of other youth from our community join us for 5 days of Equip training.

The OVCP leadership team is leading these youth through the well-respected John Maxwell  Equip leadership course. They are training these youth in how to lead with integrity and providing them with tools to help them succeed in leading their future businesses and families.

The youth also received hands-on training on how they could start their own cake baking and soap making business. Uganda is the youngest population in the world with 77% of its population being under 30 years of age. It is so important to equip our youth to be job creators.

It is powerful that these youth are receiving this training from fellow Ugandans who personify what it means to lead with faith and integrity. This was our fifth and largest youth gathering yet!
Sometimes it still feels like a dream. We close our eyes and it is 2007. Two young men, Paul and Afan, are attempting to teach every grade from primary 1 to 7 in the worst imaginable conditions.

We open our eyes and it is 2019 and these two men are leading a team that has made our school one of the best in our district and among the best in our country!

This past January we celebrated with our community, our staff, our children, and local leaders. God is so faithful.

This February we started a new school year and our school has grown by over a hundred students for the 4th year in a row. This year we have 556 students attending OVCP's primary school, Hands of Hope!
OVCP Staff = Community Heroes
Teacher Susan is a nursery school teacher and she has worked with us for 11 years!! She started when salaries were tiny and the conditions were very hard. But from day one up to now, she shows up every day with energy and enthusiasm that makes her little pupils delighted to come to school. Her love and effort know no bounds and you will find her helping out everywhere from the classroom to the kitchen to the dorm room.

This January we got to have a group from Canada join us in Uganda on a vision trip. Our heart was that rather than coming to see the impoverished as those to be pitied and saved, we wanted this group to get a chance to admire the community we work with and see the talent and abundance of potential - and, boy did they ever!! We love how the hearts of our team and our community became truly entwined during this trip!
