While life remains a little different and many restrictions are in place, there has still been plenty happening locally. I just wanted to share just a few highlights...

M1 Update: vital upgrades to Varsity Lakes interchange reach completion

The finish line is in sight for the congestion-busting upgrades to the M1’s Varsity Lakes Interchange (Exit 85), with final touches to be delivered this week.

I want to thank locals for their patience as the works were being undertaken. For years this interchange has been a major bottleneck for local residents and parents doing the school run.

The old bridge featured only one westbound and two eastbound lanes, leading to regular traffic jams at peak times. The upgraded bridge has two lanes in each direction, as well as a dedicated cycle lane in both directions and a pedestrian footpath on the northern side.

Upon completion of the M1 Pacific Motorway – Mudgeeraba to Varsity Lakes project, construction will move onto the next stage of the southern M1 upgrades – Varsity Lakes to Tugun.

Support Small

A number of our amazing cafes and restaurants are opening up and accepting table reservations this week for the coming weekend and beyond, adopting the 10 person maximum.

Can we please be calm and polite as staff navigate new restrictions carefully. Could you also please try to accommodate your food and beverage spend (and your time) to the best possible outcome for the business.

Try to spend generously on food if you choose to sit down and also remember others might be waiting as your meal draws to a close. Our community will get back on its feet quicker and stronger if we all work together.
ANZAC Day

While there was no service at the Burleigh Cenotaph to honour our service men and women, I still wanted to lay a wreath from the people of our electorate. As always, Burleigh Blooms assembled a beautiful traditional wreath.

It was great to see so many local people pay tribute to all those who served by heading out to their driveways or balconies to light a candle at dawn. #lestweforget

Roadmap to easing restrictions in Queensland

We’ve finally got a plan to ease restrictions in Queensland.  The roadmap below outlines a staged approach to giving Queenslanders more freedom to travel, participate in more activities and hold more gatherings.

For more information on the Roadmap to easing restrictions view the Frequently Asked Questions.

COVID Safe checklists are required for businesses that provide dining-in for customers, such as restaurants, cafes, pubs, RSLs, clubs, and hotels (food courts remain closed) and beauty therapy services:

If you do not offer these services, you do not need to complete a checklist. All businesses should, however, be following the work health and safety guidelines.

Queensland Roadmap to easing restrictions website can be found here: https://www.covid19.qld.gov.au/government-actions/roadmap-to-easing-queenslands-restrictions

Make sure you are following my social media pages for updates (instagram @michaelhartmp and Facebook)

Please continue to adhere to social distancing regulations and keep safe. Let’s keep flattening that curve 👊🏼

A fair go for small business

Join me in calling on Queenslanders to back a campaign to help small businesses that have been denied coronavirus support by the Palaszczuk Labor Government.

Right now Queensland is the only state refusing to give grants to small businesses that have been hit hard.

New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia have all introduced grants of between $10,000 - $17,500 for small businesses and Queensland should too so please add you name to this petition.

Sign the petition at: queensland.typeform.com/to/dX92Rp
