We’ve almost reached Spring and I can’t say I will miss the cold morning starts we have been having! Is it just me, or does it feel colder lately?

This month in Burleigh, I was privileged to celebrate a milestone birthday of 105 years with our oldest electorate resident Annie! We can all only hope to be as amazing as she is and reach such an impressive age.

There was also plenty of other events and action locally, so here is a brief wrap up for you:
Baby Give Back Golf Day

Baby Give Back hosted another successful golf day this past weekend to raise much needed funds for their efforts to ensure every local baby gets an equal start. I was proud to sponsor the event once again and see so many others in our community get on board to support the efforts of these amazing young women.

Don’t forget that Baby Give Back have a permanent warehouse in Burleigh now – you can check their facebook page for drop off times and working bees.
Hart’s Hand-Up

Opens next month - $200 for 5 worthy recipients.
Designed to provide a bit of a helping hand up to community groups for equipment or expenses, or individuals pursuing sporting or academic ventures - applicants must live in Burleigh electorate or be not-for-profit based in Burleigh electorate.

Burleigh Headland Oceanview Track update

As you may already be aware from our emails and social media posts, in late July, I received an update on the Oceanview Walking Track after chasing up the Department of National Parks once again.

The remediation works required at present to the walking track to make them safe for public use is not a simple case. There needs to be a full assessment of cliff line boulder clusters – there are over 1000 unstable boulders. According to a Senior Ranger, there was a tender process for an assessment report into the track and boulder stability, this concluded late June. The assessment report has been completed and a Geo-tech engineer and company have been appointed. They started 2 weeks ago and a final report is due from them at the end of August with requirements to be actioned outlined (stabilisation works etc). As you can see, it is going to be a lengthy process taking many months with the track having no expected opening date at this time.

I have requested to receive regular updates on the track and works so I can share this information with locals and I pointed out to the Department, they are failing to update their website for the community.

I have also written to the Minister for Environment once again requesting she inspect the Burleigh Heads National Park with me and I have started a petition calling on the Labor Government to prioritise works in the Park and ensure funds are made available for the works required.

You can sign and share the petition here:

Walk With Us

I assisted at a Walk With Us dinner this month and I continue to be amazed at the selfless generosity of some in our community.

Walk With Us is based right here in Burleigh and was started about 4 years ago by 3 young people who just wanted to help those less fortunate than themselves. In this time they have bought a smile to many faces along the way.

Initially the charity was set up to put on a luncheon on Christmas Eve for 200 Homeless and Disadvantaged people on the Gold Coast. This has been held for the last 3 years at Albert Waterways and have been very successful. Through sponsorships, fundraising and the help of friends and family they have managed to raise the money to cover this huge day.

The team meet at Fradgley Hall in Burleigh Heads on Monday nights at around 5:30pm with friends arriving just before 6pm for some dancing, music and dinner.
