It’s been a huge couple of months in the Burleigh electorate with events and news everywhere you turn.  Some highlights being Bleach Festival, ANZAC Day services and the Burleigh to Surfers 10km Ocean Swim.

With June just around the corner, how is everyone coping with the colder weather? I can't say I have missed these cold mornings.

Now onto a quick wrap up for you...
ANZAC DAY

Another huge turn out at War Memorial Park, Burleigh Heads. Great to see our community come together to commemorate our servicemen and women.

I was also proud to attend and lay wreaths at some local school services including Palm Beach Currumbin High School and Palm Beach State School.

Harts Hands Up Grant - WINNERS

I recently announced the deserving winners of my Hart's Hand-Up Grants. Congratulations to the 5 local individuals and community groups who received the $200 grant including:

  • Bron from Gold Coast War Widows to assist with their friendship week event
  •  Burleigh Heads Community Kindergarten to help out with some new  equipment
  • Local student Piper, who is heading down to Melbourne for Cheer Nationals 🤸‍♀️

The second round will be later in the year, keep an eye out on upcoming newsletters and on my Facebook page for details.

Have you any wool?

The Knitting/Crochet and Chat Group at Varsity Lakes Community Resource Centre spend their time producing beanies, scarves, blankets, toys, mittens and gloves.

I've donated to get them started - they use 8ply 100% acrylic wool. These items are then passed onto those in need like women's refuges and premature babies at our local hospitals.

My office is a drop off point for any for wool donations - 1 Paradise Avenue, Miami.

Old Burleigh Town petition update

Thank you Lynne and all the residents who supported my petition calling for a new bus service at Old Burleigh Town.

I tabled for the public record your support in Parliament - 1068 locals’ signatures. I will keep you all posted on the Minister's response.

This should make it clear how badly this service is needed.

M1 upgrade update - traffic changes at Varsity Lakes Interchange (Exit 85) from mid-April 2019

From mid-April 2019, the alignment of the southbound motorway lanes near Varsity Lakes will temporarily change to enable road upgrade works to occur along the existing southbound alignment.

During these changes:

  • both lanes of the new Varsity Lakes Interchange (Exit 85) southbound off-ramp will open to traffic in a temporary configuration
  • all southbound motorway traffic will travel along these 2 lanes.

Motorists continuing southbound will re-join the existing alignment of the motorway via a new temporary section of road located near the Reedy Creek Road northbound flyover.

Motorists exiting to Varsity Lakes or Burleigh Heads must be in the left-lane only to exit to Scottsdale Drive and Stapley Drive, or Reedy Creek Road.

This temporary traffic arrangement will be in place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for around 8 months, conditions permitting.

These latest changes come after the existing M1 southbound Reedy Creek (Exit 85) was replaced by 1 lane of the new Varsity Lakes Interchange (Exit 85) southbound off-ramp in mid-March 2019.

Youth Member for Burleigh

Earlier this month I traded places with my youthful counterpart Isla Clancy Youth Member for Burleigh. Some of our day entailed a community morning tea, visiting the Varsity Lakes Community Centre and practicing our media skills.

The future is bright for our electorate with young women like Isla considering a career in politics.
Winter is coming, have you gotten your flu shot yet?

I received mine at Palm Beach Chempro recently. Don’t let my face fool you, it didn’t even hurt and only takes a few minutes 😉 Everyone should consider getting their jab soon, better safe than sick.

Don’t forget to contact my office if you have an event or organisation to share
