First of all I must start with a thank you to the people of the Burleigh electorate, for returning me as your State Member in November.

It was a tough campaign across the entire State and I am proud of the campaign the LNP fought. We announced 103 policies over the course of the campaign and made over 800 local commitments across Queensland. We focused on the issues that matter to Queenslanders. The creation of jobs and growing the economy to lift wages, dealing with the cost of living by saving families an average of $780 over three years and the building of the roads, bridges and dams we need across Queensland. And while we weren’t successful in securing the seats required to form Government, we will continue our efforts to hold the Labor Government to account and drive the jobs creation, building of infrastructure and lowering of cost of living that Queenslanders need so badly.

Moving on from the election, can you believe, we are two week’s out from Christmas!? Time really does fly but this year seems to have gone so much faster than others in many ways. Have you done your Christmas shopping and made it to any local carols yet? I’m looking forward to staying local and spending time with my wife, children and grandchildren but if you’re traveling to visit family and friends over the holiday period, please be safe on our roads. Adhere to the speed limits, don’t drink or text and drive, and be considerate to other road users.

Whatever you are doing, I wish you and yours, a very Merry Christmas.

Now onto what’s been happening and a snapshot of what is happening in the Burleigh electorate …
Local school awards & graduation events

With Parliament not sitting as it usually does in November, it was my privilege to get along to almost all the award and graduation events held at our local schools for 2017.

I’m grateful to the schools for allowing me to participate and to sponsor some of the awards handed out. To all of the award recipients, graduates and parents, I congratulate you on a wonderful year and send my best wishes for your future journey.

Burleigh Heads Miami Senior Citizens Christmas lunch

During the campaign last month, attending the Burleigh Heads Miami Senior Citizens Christmas lunch at the Burleigh Bombers was a welcome respite from the blazing sun at prepoll.

It was great to catch-up with the members and hear about the club’s most recent successes. They have a fantastic facility on Matilda St in Burleigh and offer plenty of activities including indoor bowls and weekly cards if you’re interested.

Call 07 5535 4956 for more information.

Meet your police – PCCC

I was at the PCCC evening in November at the Currumbin RSL for the 10 year celebration of exemplary policing.

We celebrated guest speaker, Senior Constable Kurt Foessel, for his 10 year journey as a true champion of the community, always working tirelessly to keep our young people heading in the right direction in life and keeping our community safe for all of us.

Thanks Kurt!
Boomerang Alliance Community Awareness forum

I hosted this forum in November with the Boomerang Alliance who have been commissioned by the Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage Protection to initiate a community awareness program on the CRS and plastic bag ban in Queensland.

It was one of the best attended events on the Gold Coast and provided valuable information regarding the Queensland Government’s proposed implementation of a Container Refund Scheme (CRS) and a ban on plastic bags, coming into effect in July 2018.
