September 8, Tuesday Fall 2020 Classes Begin

The Solo Recitals are a long-standing tradition in our school and, unlike the spring concert, we can still share our music through a different medium. All Solo Recitals will happen by video this year, same planned dates and times. Students can join a Zoom meeting and play their solos from their homes (using a piano playback) or they can submit a pre-recorded video performance. The pre-recorded performance needs to be sent to Mr. Charles at least 72h (3 days) before the performance. All Solo Recitals will be live-streamed on our Facebook page. You are welcome to share the link with family and friends.

Solo Recitals are a wonderful chance for your child to “shine,” gaining independence and confidence.  Not all Suzuki programs provide this opportunity, and it is one of the best goal-directed ways to help your child grow musically! Please pick a piece with your teacher that you are comfortable playing!

The Online Sign-up sheets will be available starting Tuesday, April 14th 6:30 PM through our online newsletter. Have your calendars, song and composers name ready. Please, choose a recital based on the group class level you were placed at in September 2019. If you have any trouble signing up, contact Mr. Charles.

If you have a completely unavoidable conflict with your recital date & time, you MUST notify Charles Regauer [(505) 504-8456,] or Laura Crawford, [] to put you on another recital. The recitals are organized this way for students to be able to see their friends playing.
The recital program booklet will be available on our website and sent in the newsletter a few days before the recital, so make sure your information on Sign up Genius is correct – we want each student and their accomplishments to be recognized accurately!

Obviously, we will not have our usual receptions after the recital (this year, you may have to bake your own cookies…). The video and the chat will stay open after the recital for people to congratulate the performers and talk. Please, stay on for a few minutes.

Rehearsals and Piano Accompaniments

This year, you will not have a rehearsal with the pianist in the auditorium. If your piece requires a piano accompaniment, please use the piano track found in the Suzuki CD. If that’s not available, or a slower tempo is needed, please contact us and we will provide you with the accompaniment. Start practicing your solo with the piano playback today! Your teacher will hear your solo every week, every lesson.

Concert Etiquette

Please keep in mind when signing up for a recital that as a member of the CSS, you agree to stay for the entire recital in which your child is participating, unless there is an emergency.  The rules apply to video recitals too! Listening to other students is important for motivation, and it is disrespectful to later performers to leave before they play.  Let’s teach our children the courtesy and joy of listening. Even though this time you will be at home, turn off other electronic devices and avoid any distractions. Performers are still encouraged to wear nice clothes for the video Solo Recitals.

Returning Students

The Returning Student Form will be online only this year. In these uncertain times, we understand that some families are unaware of what the next months will be and we are giving a more flexible deadline to receive your returning forms, If you know you will not be returning, are moving, or are not able to fully commit to CSS next year for some reason, please let us know as soon as you can. We would like to know how many openings we have for next year, and yet we have many people applying to our waiting list, including quite a few siblings.  We will not invite anyone on the waiting list to come to watch lessons until we know there is an opening for them. If you have a sibling wanting in the program, PLEASE fill out an application on our website, so that will be in our system.

Summer Lessons

Summer is a wonderful time to keep the work going since there is no school or homework! To maintain all the work accomplished this year, keep a routine going by taking regularly scheduled private lessons over the break.  Please, check yous teacher availability. Summer lesson forms will be available through our Newsletter and must be paid by June 5.
