Published on 15th November

We were delighted to have been joined by Sean Randall for the first in a two-part series. Sean is something of a computing and IT mastermind and now works at New College Worcester, training many of their students in the use of assistive technology including screen readers and braille displays.

This session primarily discuss the various braille devices available to consumers. He then provided an overview of libraries and sources of materials specifically for blind people, including:

  • RNIB: reading Services, Bookshare and NTNM
  • The Seeing Ear National Accessible Library
  • Bibles for the Blind

This session was recorded on Tuesday 9 November 2021. For further information please visit the Braillists Foundation Media Page.

Do you want to learn the basics of braille but not quite sure where to start? Have you attempted to learn previously but not quite managed or finding that you’re getting a bit rusty? Perhaps you know someone who wants to learn braille but isn’t aware of the Braillists?

No matter the reason we’ll be making sure everyone feels welcome in the third edition of our popular Braille for Beginners course, taking place over 8 Tuesdays starting on 11 January. It is free to attend and if you give us your address when registering we’ll even pop some learning resources in the post free of charge to help you follow along with our new, custom learning curriculum. Free Slates and Styluses Still Available!

We still have some A4 braille frames and styluses to give away to anyone living in the UK or Ireland. All we ask is that, if we send you some equipment and you decide you no longer want it, you agree to give it away rather than selling it.

For introductions to using this kit, please see recordings of our previous Masterclasses, available at or via the Braillecast podcast.

To request your free equipment, please email Stephanie on or call her on 020 3893 3392. Please be sure to include your postal address when you write to her, otherwise she won’t know where to send it!

Paper for the A4 hand frame can be obtained from a number of suppliers – please see the page at for more information.

N.B. logistics are being handled by our partner, Vision Through Sound CIC. Your data will therefore be held by them in addition to the Braillists Foundation. However, please be assured that they will only use your data in order to dispatch Braillists Foundation products and will not use it for their own marketting purposes.

If you are not from the UK or Ireland, you can ask on the Braillists’ email forum for advice on similar resources in your country.
