Our weekly Stay Safe, Stay Connected Zoom call will return tomorrow evening, the 15th of May. This week we'll be joined by Brian MacDonald, president of the National Braille Press, and we'll also be announcing the winner of our survey competition, who will receive a £10 Amazon voucher. If you've not completed our survey yet, you have until 5 PM UK time tomorrow. Details on how to complete the survey are below.
Since 1927, National Braille Press has remained a global leader in producing high quality, affordable Braille materials and developing innovative technologies advancing Braille literacy. They offer a range of books, from cookery from a blindness perspective to original Braille works written by blind authors expressly for blind people. Brian will be telling us how he's working hard to get more high-quality Braille into the hands of readers around the world in these most trying times.
You can join us via Zoom from 6 PM (UK time) on the 14th of May at https://zoom.us/j/227981901. You can also join us by telephone by calling +44 203 481 5240 and entering meeting ID 227 981 901 when prompted. A few people have reported having difficulties following the links in our emails (this may be due to the software we use to send them). If the link doesn't work for you, the link at braillists.org/staysafe should. You can also enter meeting ID 227 981 901 in your Zoom client to join the meeting manually.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we've been trying to go beyond our core mission of promoting Braille literacy by doing what we can to support the blind and partially sighted community through these unsettling times. As we've been running online Zoom meetings for seven weeks now, we'd love to know what the community has thought of them, and would like us to do next! We're especially keen to explore ways we can continue to support our core mission of promoting Braille literacy further, in a way the community finds useful and entertaining.
That's why we've created a survey, for all Braillists community members (whether you've joined our Zoom meetings or not), to work out how best to move forward. The survey is accessible, will take less than 10 minutes to complete, and we'll be entering respondents into a draw for a £10 (or local currency equivalent) Amazon voucher. You can complete it at https://forms.gle/CkZfBLdNWHgEsSGh9.
We'll be closing the competition at 5PM UK time tomorrow (the 15th of May), so this is your last chance to be entered into the draw!
Our Braille for beginners session will return on Monday the 18th of May at 7PM UK time, and our clever cooking session will take place on Wednesday the 20th of May at 7PM. You can find full details of all our meetings as well as Zoom links at braillists.org/staysafe
A NOTE ON TIME DIFFERENCES
6 PM UK time is 17:00 UTC. Please check the local time carefully if you are joining us from outside the UK!
On behalf of the entire Braillists team, thank you for sticking with us as we grow the Braillists into a fully-fledged community of Braille enthusiasts. We hope you have found the Zoom meetings we've held so far useful and entertaining, and we look forward to sharing more activities with you and continuing to promote Braille in the future!
