Dear Braillist,

A very happy New Year, I hope you had a great Christmas and start to the year.

A quick reminder of the upcoming Braillists meetings happening this month.
  • This Thursday afternoon, 15th, we'll be in Dublin demonstrating and user-testing Bristol Braille's Canute multi-line Braille ebook reader prototype from 2pm until 4pm.
  • Next Monday evening, 19th, from 6.30pm to 8pm we'll be taking a wander through the history of Braille technology in central Bristol with examples of various Braille machines to get your hands on.
  • On the morning of Wednesday 28th we'll be in Dorking, Surrey again demonstrating and testing Bristol Braille's Canute Braille ebook reader prototype.
All meetings are free and open for anyone to join however, as places are limited, please let me know if you'd like to attend and I'll send you full details.

We are looking to have several physical examples of pivotal Braille and tactile reading machines for our History of Braille talk in Bristol next Monday. We already have some interesting machines to hand but we would particularly like to include any of the following: If you have one of these or something else that would be of interest and could bring along please do get in touch. It looks like it'll be a fascinating presentation and discussion.

This year we would like to get more Braille and tactile reading developers and organisations to come and show us their products, prototypes and services. If you know of anyone who'd be interested please do let me know. We are particularly interested in supporting small and local developers and initiatives.

Ed from Bristol Braille has written a summary of last year's developments on their Canute and Midas projects, here's an excerpt:
"Its been an interesting twelve months for both the Canute and the Midas projects, and for the wider cause of affordable refreshable Braille.
What will happen to Canute in 2015? Well, we’re going to go hell-for-leather towards an extremely small batch release of 3+ 28-character by 4-line ereaders. After that, who knows?"

Sounds like they are going to have a productive and explorative year. The full article is on their website and can be found here.

If you know of anyone who would be interested in the above you can send them this email by clicking here.

I look forward to exciting new Braille developments in 2015 and getting to test them with even more Braillists.

Best regards,
