Dear Readers,
Every year, September 29 is celebrated as International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Food Waste. Our founder, Prof. M S Swaminathan, always concerned about food loss and waste issues amid many people face hunger-like situations. Their numbers have increased due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
On this occasion, Prof. Swaminathan gave a strong message –
"Food waste is also a waste of natural resources like land and water. To a great extent, food losses and waste are symbolic of the inefficiencies of our food systems. In a world of limited resources and with hungry people, food losses and waste are unacceptable not only from an ethical point of view, but also from an "economic" point of view".
Besides, our foundation has launched its programme "Every Child A Scientist" which was inaugurated by Hon'ble Minister for School Education, Government of Tamil Nadu, Shri Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi. Our Fish for All Centre in Poompuhar celebrated the International Coastal Clean-up day campaign – Clean Seas! Our Pride!
