Furniture for Tornado Victims

Dayton Ohio Area
by Caleb Ingram

Friends, guess what?? Last month I sent an email asking you if your churches could donate to help displaced families have their furniture and household goods before Christmas.

Guess what happened?

Collectively, you donated over $20,000 that has allowed St. Vincent de Paul to make bulk orders of more furniture to help meet the needs and get the 100 families who had been waiting delivered before Christmas!

Though there will still be further opportunities, I wanted to take this time to say THANK YOU!! If individuals from your churches want to help deliver, we're doing a massive move-in day on Saturday, December 14th! People can register for that at LivingCityProject.org.

Also, we did a quick, informal video that you could share with your church or communities to let them know just how grateful we are! You can see the video on Facebook or this version you can DOWNLOAD to play in your church service.

Thank you all for your generosity, and thank you St. Vincent de Paul for coordinating the purchasing and delivery process!

Sharing Your Story for God’s Glory: We are encouraging you to share your congregation’s story of Redemption and Victory in the areas of Church Transformation, Multiplication and Leadership Development. We will use your story to encourage and empower other leaders and congregations. Please submit your story to office@ohchog.org.

OSYC REVIEW
Ohio State Youth Convention of the Church of God

This year’s OSYC, November 8-10, 2019 was held at Salem Church of God. It was an absolutely wonderful weekend to be a part of as a director. What made it so great this year was an incredible group of leaders on our team, as well as the Salem team, speaker, band, and tech crew. Everybody did an incredible job fulfilling their responsibilities, which made the weekend smooth and easy.

We had right at 550 students and adult leaders registered this year.

Our speaker, Chip Taylor, and band, Community Music, also far exceeded our expectations this year. Chip has a way of connecting with students that is often hard to find in a “professional” speaker. He definitely made an impact and I know that my own students have still been talking about what he shared. I even have one student that felt called into ministry, both because of Chip and the worship with the band. Community Music was really great to work with as well. They worked so hard to meet our needs and to offer worship that connected with our students. Throughout the weekend, they worked hard to make adjustments in order to better connect and draw students into worship.

On Saturday afternoon students engaged in a much needed work project. Several of the youth groups fanned out into the tornado ravaged community of Dayton to offer hope and help.

Developing Leaders for the Next Generation

by Steve Southards (notes from his TED talk at the 2019 General Assembly)

Invest in a few who have the potential to outlive and outpace you.

How?
  1. By your life example (1 thes 2:8)
  2. By your words (ICNU)
  3. By creating opportunity (expose them, serve them, you do it, then watch them do it)
Partners in Ministry
REALLY BIG NEWS!

As mentioned at our General Assembly Business Meeting in October, this month we will launch our new website.

Beginning DECEMBER 11, 2019, you can connect with us at our new website address cogo.church, no need to put the www in your search bar. Or you can continue using the current www.ohchog.org  and be automatically redirected to cogo.church.

Rationale for change?

While not all change is good, this change is GREATbecause it reflects the following:

NAME CHANGE
To simplify what we do, show our relationship to our national body, and focus on core ministries, we have changed our name from Ohio Ministries of the Church of God to Church of God Ohio Ministries (COGO Ministries).

MISSION
To do whatever it takes to effectively share the good news of Jesus, both locally and globally, so that mature disciples are made, biblical leaders are identified and nurtured, and healthy churches are established and multiplied.

To accomplish this mission for our more than 200 congregations, and nearly 700 licensed and ordain clergy, our website will serve as a resource center. The purpose is, not just to increase one’s knowledge, but also to empower those who visit our site to be more effective in ministry!

ALIGNMENT
Once you sign on to our website, the landing page opens to a fresh new look which matches the color of our national office while at the same time delivering on what is uniquely Ohio. You will be reminded that  we are Better Together as we Move Together. Moving Together serves as our unified call to action in our four core ministry areas:  Church Transformation, Leadership Development, Congregational Services and Church Multiplication.

PARTNERSHIPS
You Are Not Alone, the theme of our 2020 Leadership Convention (Start Fresh), reflects our many partnerships both in and outside of the state of Ohio. COGO Ministries believes in power of many partnerships with local churches, districts, and Church of God Ministries as well as partnerships with other church agencies and businesses. These partnerships open doors for you to collaborate for Kingdom Advancement.

Many of our partnerships have served both our congregations and clergy for many years. At cogo.church you will find partnerships in the areas of insurance and financial services, mission and ministry. We even included State of Ohio Government links to help you meet your fiscal and legal responsibilities.

All of these partnerships are under the tab RESOURSES/FOR MEMBERS. When you click on our partners’ icons, you open strongboxes of hidden treasures designed to save you money, time, and eliminate frustrations.

GROWTH CAPACITY
Our new website was designed with your ministry needs and desires in mind and has the capacity to grow and expand.

You are encouraged to view both videos on the landing page and VISION tab to learn more about what COGO Ministries (Church of God Ohio) is doing for our many churches, pastors, and ministries throughout the state.

Enjoy the World Wide Webb … Our new website cogo.church will launch DECEMBER 11th.

Exponential Highlights

Exponential 2019 – Chicago – Made for More

Walking through Ephesians, Exponential this year focused on how each of us are called for more in our lives, churches, and partner ministries. With powerful worship and great talks the 2 day event impacted, challenged, and encouraged over 1000 pastors, planters, and key lay leaders present to live into our God created nature and God called ministry. COGO Ministries was delighted to scholarship 12 pastors and lay leaders to Exponential this year. We had a wonderful time together as we worshipped, talked, prayed and dreamed together. Thanks to Dan Fiorini, Jordan Halstead, Derek Specht, Grace Specht, Drew Wilkerson, Kay Wilkerson, Chris Allen, R.W. Moody, Brandon Holbrook, Corie Holbrook, Chris Cottrell and Esther Cottrell for representing Ohio well at Exponential.

Next year’s theme is Collaboration: what can we do better together than separately? COGO Ministries has already purchased a block of tickets to share with pastors for November 10-11. For more information of how you can attend contact Esther Cottrell, esther@cogo.church

The 2019 Christmas Project
The theme is Good News:
Experiencing the Genuine Jesus!

In a world seeming overwhelmed with bad news, it’s time for some good news. Maybe it’s a positive doctor’s report, a promotion, or the announcement of a much-wanted pregnancy. Whatever the good news, it restores hope, energizes love, excites joy, and brings peace. Over the past two thousand years, people just like you and me have found that experiencing Jesus—the genuine Jesus—has enriched, and even, changed our lives. This Christmas, the CWC and regional pastors are empowering congregations and church leaders, like you, to help people in your ministry area to sample the best news of all. His name is Jesus.

You will find some excellent Christmas materials located at the CWC website.
If you have additional comments or need further assistance,

please contact Ohio Ministries.
We believe the resources found here
will make a difference this Christmas.
